Bless yourself nyc
Heading into NYC for the artshow, I see this to my right. To my left, a large billboard with only the words 'Bless Yourself'. um...ok...

way too much to see but glad we saw what we did.
The next few journal entries will be snippets and my quick picks of Fountain, The Armory, Volta and Pulse NY art fairs in March 2010.

ok we all know that I (MissyCakeland) cannot resist things such as this. ;)
reminds me of all my little obsessions...candy temples and decorative buttons...my missycakeland rings and the little puertorican cookies I grew up with.
see this large and see more highlights from the fair! )

rushing over to Volta art fair, it's the 3-headed form of Krudarva!;)
3headed Krudarva ;)
taking a moment to be thankful for my lovely art fair ladies/cohorts. it was twice as sweet drinking in all the art with them both and picking out things we know the other will love/respond to.
see what we saw! )

name that painting?

this zoomed in bit of a photo I took last night of windowshoppers in NYC reminds me of an old painting (which one- anyone know?)....and evokes for me the mood of other times and stories....
the lights of NYC in holiday time....the sounds and sight of horse-drawn carriages.....
where/when am I?

maryann loftparty brooklyn
'All Good Things' Brooklyn loftparty, Maryann Leone sings 3/6/09

wishing her well as she goes off on new adventure working at the Omega Institute:)

next day we were supposed to go to the art fairs in NYC...instead got lost driving through NJ and Brooklyn trying to find a Craig's List car for Brent (his motor blew)...

highlight was grabbing a bite to eat (exhausted) back in Williamsburg before running to get to the Pulse fair for just the tail end of it. Only got to see 1/6th of it before it closed.(sigh)..sad about missing Scope fair entirely too. So much I was hoping to see.

pictures and snippets from 2 daytrips running about the many art fairs this March 27-30 in NYC. We got to check out PulseNY, Volta , ArtNow, LA Art, Pool, and ScopeNY. Never made it to the Armory, Diva, Red Dot, or anything else. Luckily I only had to pay for Art LA and Volta and had free rides in and out of nyc. I was of course overloaded after just one fair and wanted to just sit in a cafe and write. whew. But I'm glad I got to see as much as I did. You'll probably notice a theme to the things that drew me this time around...I'm just obsessed with trash, development and the intersections of wild and manmade.

I'm as mesmerized by the views as the art. Pulse NY fair 2008. view from Pier 40....can't shake this waking dream feeling...it is the anniversary of when I had the Pier10 dreamvision on March 25th 1999.

and as I gaze out this window I can somehow see the Pier10 Dome...?

ok..back to this dimension....one of my favorite finds at Pulse was artist Tara Tucker's work at Rena Bransten Gallery.:

I may repost and reread this dream every year on 9/11 until I fully understand the implications:

Mr.B and I went in to see the art fairs in NYC...there were 5 all together(!) but we decided we would only take in 2 at a slower more reasonable pace. I had some of my works at Red Dot with Morgan Lehman so we went there first. read more/links to art I loved/you must see )

NYC run

Train in....loving the view out the windows...all the secret backyards and aboveground swimming pools...strange sights and bits of graffiti...odd toy-like machines of construction....dirt piles and waterways.
Once in NYC...I grab a much overdue coffee and then we eat
pizza at an extremely silver place outside Penn Station. watching lunch breakers and some suspicious folk by a trash can. One man looking around before putting something from his wallet in...another shuffling over a few minutes later and 'casually' feeling around.
hmmmm.

subway down to Van Dam to pick up resin. Two huge gallon sets. B and I put em into tote bags and staggered through the streets for our cafe rendesvous with J to bring him my baby artwork...read more )
