Drove out to the GH museum for the 'meet the winners' walk through. Each of the winning artists had an opportunity to talk a bit about their work as we walked round the show as a group. I was so nervous and it got worse as each other artist spoke. Didn't know how I should approach it- give an overview, focus on this one piece (Visual Tourist),resin pieces, materials, process or concept...ritual or mapping...cyberspace...so MUCH to say, how on earth to start?! I tried to just think of 2 sentences to start with but my mind would not cooperate. Yikes! My mind was going totally blank from nerves!ohnoohno..
But thankfully, surprisingly, holy cow relievingly, when it actually came my turn (I was absolutely LAST) I just started speaking...and it flowed right out of me. I don't know where it comes from...but it somehow manages to flood right past all my fear gates and go out and connect. I still don't even know how on earth I managed to convey what I did- but it really seems I did. People were nodding, wide-eyed and intent and I spoke of language, communication, the brain, code, perception, networks, communication, aerial views, mappings, connections, visions etc. A woman brought up the Aboriginal mappings and Dreamings and we spoke of that...and bringing it up to a sense of Now.
I felt so good after, like I had really been able to share something important...with a GROUP of people. I never think I can for some reason...and then it works.B was beaming and happy for me.

We walked around town a bit and then went to the Blue Parrot for lunch...something we had promised ourselves as a celebration. I got my favorite Southwestern Sushi (raw tuna in a spinach wrap with horseradish sauce, wasabi, ginger, soy sauce....and their killer Margarita. mmmmm. Pic of my hunbun:

I'm so behind on updating it's become intimidating. When things are really going on, I'm just no good at getting it down.
SO, a few highlights of LAST weekend:
*Last Saturday-Big members show at the museum out here. Sort of signifies the start of the season...and is a packed venue. Nice to see everyone out after winter. Nice to have free wine.;)Juror was from the Gugghenheim. I won an award for 'Best Mixed Media' for my piece 'Virtual Tourist'(pic below)so that was a cool surprise.

Resin, nails, enamel, acrylic, flocking on wood.
*met [livejournal.com profile] sendao in person- he came out to the show! This is my very first real-live meeting with a cyberfriend and I couldn't help introducing him as my imaginary friend and such to revel in the surrealism.:) All my other friends talked to him so he must be real. Or else they just really love me and are playing along.;)
We went for pizza after and then back to the house for tea and book show and tell.. he showed us the MUD he's developing...and we talked of all sorts of things. Hopefully the first of many meetings.:)
*Last Sunday- dinner gathering at my place for a close group of friends. I set up lots of candles and plucked wet flowers from the purple blooming bush outside and put them all around.Such a warm fun time. Laughter and nonsense. all sorts of yummies. Pony is in transition to move to NYC....so she's giving away stuff and seeing what she can put on ebay and we're all trying on strange clothes playing dressup and being dorks. We took a bunch of pics...L dancing in a flapper dress, Bunny in a bathrobe...These pics may or may never get uploaded but believe me, it was fun.;)
*This week the local papers had reviews of the shows, the museum one and the one at the gallery. REALLY Good mentions in all three articles! wowyay. It's been awhile since I had press to put in my portfolio. Gotta learn to scan this sort of thing.
*I'm still working diligently on Puja/Prayers....up to about 3 or 4 lines of hammered nails a day.
If it's finished in time, I'll enter it in the upcoming 'Tactility' show at the gallery.
