Empathy Box
May. 21st, 2003 07:29 pmHere are some pictures of the box-artwork I just finished for the East End Hospice charity auction.
(about EEH: East End Hospice cares for the terminally ill in their homes, providing pain and symptom control, as well as spiritual and emotional support to patients, their families and loved ones. No one is ever turned away, regardless of his or her financial situation.)
Since I've been working with the theme of empathy, I figured it would be even more appropriate for this occasion, so I made a 'Threads of Empathy' box. The definition you'll see is high-gloss ink-jet printed along with a small detail photo and set behind plexi-glass on the left side of the box inside. The media I used for the sculptural elements: nails, carved wood, tinted resin, enamel, sand, and monofilament 'connections', all set into a modified cigar-box.
