Emerging Architectures
Apr. 27th, 2004 12:03 amHere are some detail shots of the finished piece- I'm sorry they're crappy-I have to go to the gallery again to photograph the whole thing because my lighting was awful here. But at least this gives you an idea of the structure/texture involved, that you're not looking at a flat piece. To attempt the hazard of pasting a few words to what is indescribably more complex- the piece speaks something of a code-song of combining structures of belief (churches, temples, various dwellings ancient and modern) being constantly altered and rematerialized...in our minds as in cyberspace (the shared mind)...
It is a meditation on a sort of self-assembling system of matter in which we are a part. The structures are skeletal...organic...yet they form a language and larger code. Like we do. The ancient is not lost in this new age of technology. The ancient simply recodes into new forms. Like we do.

Emerging Architectures
Apr. 18th, 2004 09:25 pmI'm working on my art- stressing because I haven't nearly finished the pieces I'm showing next week! (But what else is new- I do this last minute thing every time).
B's working late so I'm taking my dinner break with the computer- munching on thrown together pasta, sauteed mushrooms and sauce with a few chunks of mozzarella on top. Not bad. Not GOOD...but I'm not in cooking mode...just taking a short break.
Spent a good portion of the day crouch-crawling around my lawn picking up sticks. The whole lawn was littered with them from wind and trees and now that it's spring I finally got around to it. Must've looked pretty funny...but it made more sense than bending constantly. It became a smooth fast movement...I felt like a crab or insect-robot.
sendao, I tried to take a picture for you of my extra full wheelbarrow-stick-nest...but it was already too dark- I'll take one tomorrow in the sun.:)
In the meantime, here's a pic of the studio with works in progress...

Still lots to go...that's just underpainting...I'll be adding sand and making the nails stand out more (all those black areas are nails. It'll be called Emerging Architectures...I'll talk more about it when it's actually done. I measured and miter-sawed the frame wood...have to stain it tomorrow and make frames for the small pieces.
Ok, that's the end of my pasta...back to work.
