Ok here we go- it'll still be a long while before the main site opens (in which I hope to feature some select sweettreat inspired items from my ever talented friends....;)?) and a lot more stuff I've got in various stages of (yikes could it work?) progress...but I've dipped my toe in with putting a few samples up my crafting obsessions in an Etsy shop! woohoo- h0w fun! The Church of Craft meetings have been SO inspiring and encouraging...it's like everything that was holding me back for so long was sprayed away with just a few supportive gatherings.:)*big sigh* Sure I'm still nervous about having even more obsessions...but thankyou.

SO without further ado...some missycakeland accessory sweetness for you!:

2 and a half day Visit from my sis, her husband and my niece and nephew.
I've missed the lil monsters Terribly. Lil John fell in love with the super sockdog I got B for his birthday from MeganLeeDesigns.com and he begged me to try to make one. Oh boy. gulp. Well, YOU try to say no to that face so we are rummaging through sock drawers and looking for buttons and we walk to the corner store for an emergency sewing kit...and over the a day and a half of diligent sewing and stuffing and is he done yets??? ...Frankenpuppy emerges.
I admit, I'd do just about anything these guys ask. "Aunt Nini....?" "um, ok."*melt*:

He's a lil rough around the edges but still pretty funnycute methinks.

Tara was all into making art in my studio too, we painted nailheads together and stuck them into foam blocks. Went to the bay with floatees and collected rocks, went to the tiny carnival that's in town (I went on a crazy ride with John that went upside down over and over and over lordhelpus) and went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the movies. Yep, it's just as horrible/scary as I remember and I still cringe when the girl expands into a huge blueberry. Twas the stuff of Nightmares as a child. And now Johnny Depp's fake teeth and creepy smile make it worse.

But oh how I loved their visit. *sigh*
*sigh*
*SIGH*

But before I get into entries on all that, I think I must share with you something that is making me giggle every day now since I got it.
Introducing....Mr.Pinkie, my new cellphone cozy.

Ok, I think I have to face that I am now officially addicted to buying handmade and/or reconstructed thrift things off of crafty peeps through ebay and livejournal. I never was much into store shopping, especially since the places I could afford to shop in were usually set up like cold warehouses. Now, I'll still have to go in person somewhere to find a good fitting pair of jeans or perfect comfy boots, but for the rest? Gimme ebay, give me [livejournal.com profile] diymarketplace! Let me see something with a touch of love in it, a weird unique something turned from basic into special a little spark of your hands. Then I get to tell you, YOU, the designer, maker, crafty kid in her studio..how much I like what you do...and I want it please! And we message eachother, sometimes often! Then ship it to me direct, your house to mine. I love it. Often the added surprise of handwritten notes, stickers, a funny freebie, a decorated mailing box. What a treat to go to the mailbox!:)People to people. love it love it. It's like something i dreamt up as a little girl- Let's all make things and trade them and be happy. hehe .
I'd happily trade in all my boring store-bought mass-produced items for this. DIY or naked it is!! hehe...ok, ..maybe I'll keep the mass-produced undies.

TOnight during my studio dinner break I did it, I finally bid on an amazing top from an indie designer I've had my eye on for a little while. She's incredible. REconstructed..Scraps of fabric, ripped, wrapped, sewn...into these soft sexy unique wearable things... I'll happily wear this to the opening reception at Miami..and proudly tell people about. I'll post a pic when I get the top...but just for a little little while, let it be my secret, ok?.:)
But NOT a secret are the awesome hand-painted vintage purses(below) I got a while back from Leslie Hart aka [livejournal.com profile] green_wardrobe or the SSScrumptious handspun, hand-dyed yarns from [livejournal.com profile] unluckymonkey's Art Lab or the fun plastic earrings from [livejournal.com profile] lizad_creations or hysterical monster scarves from [livejournal.com profile] lorigami. The list goes on...because it's the best way ever to shop. Birthday gifts too! You go, crafty peeps! i love ya. Viva la revolucion!

fancy shmancy me proudly sportin Leslie's handpainted purse, $5 plastic earrings, and free clothes from shops I've worked in. I ama DiVa.;)

Woohoo!!
I got my box of goodies from The Green Wardrobe/aka Leslie Hart today!! I have been absolutely obsessing over DIY and handmade crafty sites lately- I'm just so enthusiastic that this is all going on and the connections are getting denser so fast. It's like something I dreamt up when i was a kid- everyone just making things and being creative and selling things to eachother...instead of going to superstores and buying mass-produced items.

My first similar experience was a few years ago buying something off of novica.com and getting a box of aMAZINGLY detailed handpainted ornaments from India (which I gave as Xmas gifts that year)..the ornaments were wrapped so carefully and with love and somehow it SMELLED like it came from far away....and inside the box was a handwritten note on a postcard (that I couldn't read but!)and a little handcarved owl as an extra surprise gift.(!)
It was such a novel experience. First, on the site, I could learn a little bit about the artisans...they became people, individuals to me. Then I felt like I was directly supporting and encouraging them by buying something. Then receiving something with a human touch....I was hooked.

SO now back to today- I ordered two (2!)handpainted vintage bags that I fell in love with off the Green Wardrobe site. (everything is made of thrift store/second-hand finds that she alters/paints on, etc). One, I think the handbags are gorgeous and fun and I love that sort of thing- two, I'm just so enthusiastic it's as if I've found yet another additional purpose in life- to nurture this type of creativityrevolution as much as I can. I'll, um, just have to make more art and make more money!;)SO, it's getting clearer: I want to support education in developing countries (help build schools and libraries through the Peace Corps) and nurture creativity and expression on and through the internet. But I digress yet again.

So, remember, I ordered two handbags. And that got us e-mailing back and forth and exchanging links about art and such which is crazy and inspiring in itself- you're connecting with a stranger in another state!)But here's what I got today:
Included were a whole bunch of funny extra goodies and flourishes-and how cute is the box!?Each side had a different pic too by the way:
