Strawberry Festival and Vineyard Hopping

Last Saturday B and I met up with some old friends on the North Fork, first stop: the Strawberry Festival. We indulged in temporary tattoos...I was torn between getting something similar to what I would get as an actual tattoo or something just outrageously fun and silly and finally went for the fun/silly: 'PowerPuff Girls Saving the World Before Bedtime' on my upper arm. Yes, I instantly felt cooler than thou. We walked about looking at crafts then went a-flying on the 'Cliff-Hanger'. woohoo thrilling and relaxing at the same time. Am I the only one who believes in the therapeutic value of amusement rides?
From there we met up with some more old friends (this whole group dates back to grade school and high school!)and began our wine-tasting tour of the vineyards.Good game this, yes!mmmmm my first favorite was something called Fume Blanc at Oprey's Dominion Vineyard. But then, unexpectedly,
I found Bliss in a sip of their (secret?)2003 Sauvignon Blanc ICE WINE, a sweet dessert wine...I didn't know it could BE like this....yumyumyumholy wow!B laughed at my rolling eyes ecstasy and we bought a bottle for a 'special occassion'. OH man, it's going to be hard not to open that!!
I don't remember falling in love with any other specific wines after that...but I sure had fun tasting them all- geez, put down two dollars and they serve you 6-10 wines- helloooooo?.;) The warm fuzzies crept right in and stayed and I'm sure I was sporting a perma-grin. We went to a few more vineyards and did the tasting thing and finally sat out back at one by a pond under a trellis an yapped as a group for a long while. At the pond I was tracking a huge bullfrog when suddenly I noticed that the ground was moving near my feet!? No it actually wasn't my drunkeness!- There were teeny baby frogs jumping everywhere!!! I held some in my hand, tinier than a coqui (the tiny frogs of Puerto Rico)and then I backed away for fear of stepping on them!:) Wish I had my camera, so many lovely visuals I would like to share with you all. Turtles popping their heads out of the water here and there and back under as if playing a game as I spotted them...I played on the lawn with Kimmy's baby, laughing at his thick chewable legs.(I refrained from eating the child).:)
And after the drive home I slept like a baybeeee- go figure.Definitely something to do again. Soon I will be an official wine-taster.;)

Date: 2005-06-24 03:05 pm (UTC)YES!I've been so entranced lately by county fairs aesthetically- there's one here now that I have been planning to catch at the right light-time with my camera(I'm in love with the how the lights look against a certain sunset sky). It's pure surreal dreamland. Will share pics when I can!:)
