In one of his lectures, Joseph Campbell was talking about Kali. As he was speaking a statue of her was displayed. He talked about her fearsome aspect and deeds, the sword in her hand, the various implements and objects in her other hands. And then he pointed to one empty hand raised towards the viewer. He put his hand in the same position and said, "And what is she saying here?" He waved his hand back and forth in an "it's no big deal" gesture and said, "She's saying, 'Don't be fooled. This is all just illusion. We are all one in bliss beneath it all.'"
I thought that was pretty cool.
She destroys illusion. She really is sweet. And look at the god beneath her, he looks pretty satified. I don't remember which god that is. Vishnu, Shiva, Krishna? Do you know the story behind her dominance over him?
Beneath her...that is dear Shiva. Yes, he is really fine. He's her consort, knows this play and enjoys it.;) a little more about Kali with hotlinks onward and inward (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kali) :)
