You all know how I love me the Peace Corps and all they do. Well, Today is the NPCA's National Day of Action:so.....

"The National Peace Corps Association reminds all friends and supporters of the Peace Corps to take five minutes on Tuesday, March 1st, to phone, fax or email your members of Congress as part of our National Day of Action!

On that day we’re asking all supporters of Peace Corps to contact members of Congress with the following messages:
OPPOSE elimination of the Federal Perkins Loan Program which benefits Peace Corps volunteers. Low/middle income undergraduate and graduate students who receive these loans are eligible to have a percentage of the loan forgiven if they join the Peace Corps.
SUPPORT an appropriation of at least $345 Million for the Peace Corps, as the President’s budget calls for. This represents an 8.5% increase over the current Peace Corps budget."
(The $345 million Peace Corps budget request submitted by President Bush is the equivalent of less than three days' worth of current spending in Iraq and Afghanistan. I hope you agree with me that a program which promotes peace and goodwill to more than 70 nations is worth this modest expenditure.)
