The Breath Connects All Realms

This morning I searched for and found a beautiful Temple of Buddha on SecondLife and my avatar and I meditated together for the first time. It was wonderful. The meditation script is pretty amazing...the slowww and subtle breathing movements...the eyes...I felt myself relax right into it just watching her/me. This is something quite profound when you think of it. Such a learning tool..
Landmarked this spot as a favorite to return to often. My sound wasn't working but there is even a spinning tibetan prayer wheel near the buddha with Om Mani Padme Hum as a 'sound'! I can't wait to return and hear it. This Temple is located in Kasba.

Date: 2005-02-19 04:48 pm (UTC)You get to create your own avatar (there are simple guidelines in the orientation and it's really intuitive and doesn't require any previous 3d skills)...so I tried to make mine look a little like me...you change the face shape, the hair, the body etc...dress it and go! Then the avatar is you and you explore this place. It's reaaaally amazing. If your system can handle it, I'd recommend you check it out yourself- there's a free trial. Here's their FAQ page (http://secondlife.com/faq.php)

Date: 2005-02-19 04:38 pm (UTC)The part that interests me most is that what it becomes is up to us.
For a skilled techie one like yourself, I'd refer you to this page:
secondlife.com/developers.php (http://secondlife.com/developers.php)
That's all beyond me, but I and others get to experience whatever is built there!
And here's a good post about SL on Tony Walsh's blog

Date: 2005-02-20 03:32 pm (UTC)sorry, I was out last night..let's see..well, the meditation script is actually attached to the object I was sitting on at the Temple of Buddha! All you have to do it click 'sit here' and it initiates the meditation in your avatar. It's really a wonderful script! You don't have to 'know' anything.
well as far as land goes...I thought everyone is given a 512 plot to start now...is this true? If so you can put yours up for auction and try to make some money off it towards buying the plot you want....
or you can just put a price on it and see if there would be any takers.Usually it's the people right around you who want to make their plot bigger by taking over adjoining plots.
I really don't know much about making money there. They give you a stipend every week so just waiting and not spending will increase your bank gradually. That's mostly how I have my linden.I'm probably going to sell my 512 plot soon so I can contribute and do things on Better World Island...
You can also try your hand at building/creating something and putting it for sale/duplication.
Oh! and invite some friends to try out SL for the free trial! There's a referral fee, I forget how much...if they mention your name in registering. That's probably a good way- since they'll like it anyway and you'll have more peeps to play with.!
You can get linden also by attending certain events and classes I believe...
There might be a thread on the secondlifeforums (http://forums.secondlife.com/) that's more helpful than I.

Date: 2005-02-22 02:29 pm (UTC)For people who have never held land before SL has the 512m2 plots set for you to buy for L$512 - i think it's one of the tabs up top while playing SL.
Otherwise you are left with purchasing on your own which can get expensive at times.
I had lots of land in Phobos for months but then realized i really didn't need to be paying an extra $40/month for 'virtual' land.
I'm enjoying SL a little bit more now that i'm landless.
I don't know about uninteresting land in SL - I mean you can totally transform it with objects, buildings, virtual landscaping...
