The 10% Club

Well, it's perhaps silly to hide it, even while it's being worked on.
SO I've been drafting up a community finally for The 10% Club. It has been an intention for so long....and it feels like it's time now.
There is SO much I want to organize and put there....letters and photos from projects that I've received over the last few weeks even that I SO want to share because they've been Fueling me in magical ways.
I wanted to create a space for the idea to thrive....for Avalokitesvara's wish to be granted through all of us.
Feel free to take a peek, though as I said it's still in the works.:)

Date: 2005-02-11 07:02 pm (UTC)By "give the vow a try," do you mean donating 10%? If so, not a problem. Having grown up in a Christian family, I've been raised to donate 10% of my income to a church or other charitable cause, so I already do. Additionally, I highly value volunteer service (esp during the lean months). In fact, two days ago, I contacted the childrens' hospital here to get back into volunteering.
I guess we've been thinking along the same lines. :)

Date: 2005-02-11 07:16 pm (UTC)She called me a week ago about tithing. Since I just turned 30 this past fall, I just received a trust fund check, and she wanted to remind me to tithe on it. *giggle* I doubt I'll ever grow up in her eyes. However, even 10% is a huge chunk of money, and my mom agrees with me that giving 10% of it to a church to which I do not belong may not be the best use for it. So I'm researching my options now. See!!! PERFECT timing, sweetie! Thank you. :)

D, I wanted to join the community, but find myself struggling with complex issues relating to my former church experience and the years I spent working for World Vision. It's not all negative stuff, but the religious part of the equation is an emotional hotbed for me. Now I view it as more of a social problem than a spiritual one. There's also the fact that I'm unemployed and have no income to tithe, which triggers other emotions.
I'm not going to join at this time. I want you to know I'm on your side in this and believe it's an essential issue. It is, of course, closely tied with the relationship between humans and nature, which is one of my core interests. I need to find a way of contributing that is meaningful and powerful for me. Thank you for continuing to challenge me, as you always do.

Date: 2005-02-12 05:01 am (UTC)I see it as a social And spiritual problem. I hope to find ways of showing the overlap and just mathematical practicality of it,... sustainability, Bucky Fuller's ideas, that sort of thing. But I am going to focus on the common threads in the world religions as well, because I think that is such a source of unnecessary conflict in this world. Although I ascribe to no One religion, I relate deeply to the mystical interpretations of them all and believe that a focus on actions of compassion and empathy can thread together what has been divided.
