On a more now note, I've just gone and done it: I set up two small pieces (12" square) in the bathroom...and I poured resin. gulp. See, here's the problem: The resin needs warm temps to set right and I need lots of ventilation to breathe right, so I've usually avoided working with resin until Spring when I can pour it in the garage with the door wide open. Safety first. But it's still so cold and I need to finish these pieces! I feel like I've been stagnating so long. So, the only possibility we could think of was the bathroom...where I could bump up the heat, open the window a bit and have the fan on....and hope I can maintain the right temp and adequate ventilation. SO, I did it. First layer at least.gulp. I think I'll have to really consider moving to Florida or some other warm place for winter months in order to be able to do my art, especially larger pieces, because this is ridiculous. That or be a rich artist with a huge well-heated and ventilated studio.
*sigh*
Anyway I also finally dared the glitter green background layer I've been dreaming of for another piece and I am in LOVE with it, just tilting my head side to side to watch the sparkles dance.Yes, this is my magic lawn.....the cyberspace real-estate blank page....;)

I can't wait for pics! I know how it is. When I lived in the dorms it was really not warm in the rooms in winter so I'd paint with the windows shut. OOPS. One time I sat down to take a step back and look at my work and I passed out. I woke up hours later with a terrible headache. Maybe you could rent a garage and move a couple heater units in. In Chicago you could get a garage space sometimes for $50/mo. Or you can move here and use my basement in winter! I want to turn this whole bldg into artist studios and living spaces. We don't own the bldg yet but when we do we're going to do some neat things!

and did I mention I can't wait for pics!?!

hee. You're awesome, thanks. I actually have a garage and a basement in the house we're renting for the first time! it's just a ventilation problem. The garage is freezing now and the only opening is the main door so I just wouldn't be able to have it be warm enough for the resin while having any ventilation. The resin needs around 70 degrees to cure right. The basement is great- it's full-size and it's where i usually work and have my studio, but it's another ventilation/heating problem. I bought a space heater but it just doesn't cut it. I've got to get some heavy duty heater stuff (which always makes me nervous about flammability)and figure out a ventilation system for down there. heh. it just sometimes sounds easier to move to Florida for a few months.;)When Spring/Summer comes, it's great here. I work a lot in the garage with the door wide open and I wander outside while mixing..and I stare at the trees and the sky...I love fresh air...*sigh*
