It's considered the art world's equivalent of 'SpringBreak', a cornucopia of contemporary art fairs and art related events and parties all taking place within 4 December days in Miami Beach, Florida. It's pretty insane and I am overloaded and exhausted and want a week to personally recuperate, no surprise. Think I'll just stay in pjs all day today (hack-cough-ugh) and try to recap....

My main partner in crime for the week was my awesome artist friend, Janey. (Jane Martin - check out her 'CloserFarAway series of video stills..gorgeous.) We planned our trip together (I had accumulated free airfare woohoo)and lucked out with a reasonable hotelroom within easy walking distance to most events. Took our mornings slow and easy in order to rest up for the crazy packed afternoons and nights. Pretty good plan I think.

Arrived Wednesday, NOv 30, afternoon/evening...disheveled from travelling and expecting to spend a while helping with installation, we bring over my small artworks to Sara Nightingale's room at the Frisbee Fair...but Sara is in the shower and tells us to hurry and change so we can to go with her to the opening at ArtBasel. Yikes! no slow starts here! I kinda wanted to hang around and meet the other artists and gallerists in Frisbee as they installed....some boxes and piles of colorful handmade pompoms in the hall had me intrigued (you know me and yarn..)...But well, seemed we 'should' go, so. read more (lots) )

Slept in at the hotelroom. Not feeling so good bit of a cold I was hoping I could tame by a little extra rest and vitC. Wrote a bit in my bookjournal while Jane was still sleeping. When she woke we had tea and talked awhile lounging around. Then she went down to the pool and I showered and went off to Frisbee thinking I'd have to get the room ready since we didn't last night. But I forgot it didn't open until 1:00 and it was only noon and no one was there.(duh)*sigh* So instead I went for a walk around the area...enjoying the sun, looking at palm trees and buildings and cracks in pavement, glad to be out of cold NY, and getting a feel for where some things were located. Found a cybercafe and stopped in for a quickie session but just as I was finishing up a post my session ended and I lost it. bah. anyway glad to have a latte for the sippin.
Walked back to Frisbee and met up with Seth Adelsberger. (yay, new art friend.) He had arrived late the night before. I was surprised to see the room was already put together and looked pretty great. Downside was I had no wall space at all...only an area for the small works on tables. Many of the pieces I brought are really meant for the walls and I wanted to show that, not present them all as table sculpture. But it seemed obvious that to include some of my works on the walls the whole room lay-out would need restructuring so...after feeling out that it would be too stressful for everyone I just ended up swallowing it/letting it go. *sigh* Trying to remind myself that showing my works here was an extra last minute thing...I really came to See the fairs. But you know, still would've been nice to have the works displayed properly. *artistgripegrumble*

ANyhoo, Jane came around and we decided to share a cab with Seth and Bill to check out the NADA and Pulse fairs on 'the other side'(North Miami). read all about it )
