update late october
Nov. 2nd, 2005 01:43 pmI've been lame about updating my LJ lately and I apologize. Been doing lots of things...many of which I'll just list here now and hopefully expand on later on:
*running in and out of NYC by bus 3 different days for the AAF Contemporary Art Fair, lugging in my art in the pouring rain for set-up, then returning for the reception on Thursday night (sillyfun in my blue boots, loop braids and stripey longsocks;), then returning on Friday for a more thorough lookaround with B. We played 'pretend collectors', trying to figure out what we would buy if we had any money. I fell in love with a lot of small things. Afterward had dinner/drinks with 2 friends (Beth and Christine) we ran into there and a nice young gallery director named Andrew. Then a quick run through the german sisters'(Verena and
__carina__'s Halloween/Birthday party with a fake moustache ooohlalahaHA.SOrry ladies, but no, I reallly musst go.;)
*visiting my friend La Jewminicana's design studio up in Harlem. silkscreens and bright paint and colorful ghetto meets Dia de los Muertos madness. She's showing and selling some neat stuff at El Museo Del Barrio's gift shop. I'm hoping she might consider outsourcing some of her designs to a great sewing cooperative in a favela in Brazil called Coopa-Roca. We talked of weblinking and such. Later we talk over enchiladas at a local Mexican joint there... stories of exes and loves lost and life back in the 80's art world.Pretty fascinating.
*working on developing my secret plans to save the world. (muAHAHAAAA it WILL be Done!!)
*reading up on the horrible situation (post-earthquake) in Pakistan and trying to figure out how best to help. After much research I sent my 10% from working at the gallery those 2 days to Care for their Pakistan/India relief efforts. Still hoping to find an even better way to help...so when I get paid for the small artworks I sold at the AAF I'll know how to go about it.
*visiting my friend Janey out at her hermit retreat in the woods. Talking over tea, making plans to join her for trip to Miami this winter for the art fairs.
*working at Sara's Gallery for the weekend(!) (2 day fill-in gig that might turn into at least a once a week thing- we'll see, I really liked it- though it may be too complicated to wear both hats if I start showing there...*sigh* I don't know). I like promoting artist's work I like...comes pretty naturally. In the quiet times I was sketching out and brainstorming a solo show, inspired and motivated by the space lay-out. After work, stopping into an art opening in town at Hampton Road Gallery and seeing familiar faces.
*visiting Arlene at her gallery, showing pics of the wedding. She gave us an amazing sculpture of a Buddha's Blessing Hand that used to belong to Alfonso Ossorio as a wedding gift(!!). I love it. wow. Bronze hand out of a wooden base...Trying to figure out where to have it in the house..so it will bless all who enter.
*visiting my friend Esperanza at her Solar 'Underground Gallery' in the basement of a house in East Hampton.
*hammering nails on the weave piece.
*painting a bit on my 'Self-Assembling Memory Palace'
OK, I've GOT to go pick up panels for a new series of works. Time is going too quickly now!!
But I suppose it always does this time of year for me. nov-dec is always a crazy blur. For most probably?
