Worked more in the studio today...still painting in the details of the 'water' bottom. I'm so impatient to see the resin over it...but it's got a ways to go. Made a stir-fry for dinner and we watched 'Chelsea Walls' while chompin. Some pretty good acting, I'll have to say. Believable. And the old blues/jazz singer- ga- aMAzing.
Late-night I'm trying to rework by artist's statement- ugh- I'm never satisfied. Anyhoo, this is currently my favorite piece, called From Above. Can't wait to make larger ones...with the monofilament connecting the islands all over...

I finally got a check in the mail from a piece that sold a while ago. YAY. I hadn't been able to make any donations since early December and I kept reading about such excellent projects. I've been printing them out and taping them to the fridge for motivation... waiting for an opportunity.
I'd been getting amazing letters and little packets in the mail from the volunteers on the projects I did donate to and their updates and pictures make my days.So today, check in hand, I read through the peace corps volunteer projects on the website and contributed my vowed 10% to this one: http://www.peacecorps.gov/contribute/projects/detail.cfm?projdesc=683-071
It wasn't a really big sale, so it wasn't a huge donation but every bit counts so much, and it feels so good to be able to help somehow. These peace corps volunteers are my absolute HEROES. No doubt about it. I wrote back to one who wrote me from Mali, updating me on the schoolhouse he's working on getting built there. SO amazing. I wish he had a livejournal somehow and I could tap into HIS eyes and mind every day for inspiration. *sigh* Hopefully I'll sell another piece soon and add to that donation.

This was posted in a free paper I picked up called ModernSage. I loved it so I thought I'd share:
"below is a wonderful poem. Audrey Hepburn gave it when she was asked to share her "beauty tips". It was read at her funeral years later.:

For attractive lips,
speak words of kindness.

For lovely eyes,
seek out the good in people.

For a slim figure,
share your food with the hungry.

For beautiful hair,
let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day.

For poise,
walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.

People, even more than things,
have to be restored, renewed, revived,
reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone.

Remember, if you ever need a helping hand,
you will find one at the end of each of your arms."
