This past CraftyClubhouse was awesome. We had show-and-tell outside on the back patio...I relished the opportunity to give a mini-presentation on the story of the recycled paper beads from Uganda...and then shared how I am trying to integrate them into a new series of artworks (more on that next post)...and then Krupa spoke about and shared with us an amAzing artwork she made based on a 'Genogram' assignment....

Genograms are visuals much like family trees..but can be used in therapy to visualize anything from mental illness or health patterns in family history to relationships and shared traits. Krupa used it as a launching pad for a beautiful and intense exploration of her own family...incorporating photos and icons and objects into a boxlike mapping construction.

round mirrors from her great grandmother's mirror embroideries (she learned that this relative started an artisan cooperative in India!)

Afterwards we talked about plans for a fun Frankentoy workshop next gathering (inspired by the Retoyed project and Mew Gallery's similar event.) and then we went inside to snack and talk and craft around. Pat brought an insanely adorable cake decorating book which we drooled over. She also brought some beautiful cigar boxes to use for whatever we wanted... hmmmmmm not sure yet...

Date: 2007-10-17 04:00 am (UTC)I mean really is this some sort of erotic nonsense poetry or is it just me:
"These identifying characteristics of a clade are called synapomorphies (shared, derived characters). For instance, hardened front wings (elytra) are a synapomorphy of beetles, while circinate vernation, or the unrolling of new fronds, is a synapomorphy of ferns."
the unrolling of new fronds
the unrolling of new fronds
yes the unrolling of new fronds
hardened front wings
elytra and synapomorphy..
Circinate!
(the vernation):
....twas brillig and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble
in the clade.....in the clade...in..the...clade.
