Density
working on another weave of hammered nails in the basement...similar to this one I did a while ago...This one is called Density. I'm just learning how to post the images here so I'll probably post more pics from now on.

that looks really, really cool. what's the process that goes into making it? It looks like an absolutely amazing amount of work.

hey, thanks! I hammer thousands of aluminum nails into a thick plywood...hammering them in and bending them over in this case...to create complex weaves or coded language pieces. This started a while ago when I was looking for a way to create pieces with a Braille-like text...then the process itself was so meditative, felt so right, that it became a personal ritual and the 'text' became more and more abstracted...I like the idea of thoughts and language 'taking form', becoming surface, matter...

ditto on the question about how you created this?

hello! These pieces are made by hammering thousands of aluminum nails in and over a thick plywood. I had been interested in creating tactile text and code...and created many pieces with a raised nail-formed text...and then over the years the process itself became a personal ritual (very meditative)and the pieces became more abstracted and condensed. A 'sentence' became one nail and information was layered...

It looks great; I understand why you refer to it as 'a weave' as it appears almost like fabric.

yes, I'm very fascinated by scale jumps, or the 'worlds within worlds' concept....Looking at satellite imagery of our cityscapes here on Earth..one could be seeing a dense fabric or a computer circuitboard...and then within ordinary matter at the microscopic level is such complexity of structure....!
