FINALLY came out of my lethargic funk yesterday and had ONE day of Superwoman energy.

Was it because the sun finally shone out of the weeks it's been raining...pouring? I don't know, but it was gooooood. I set about madly cleaning house (ME, CLEANING! Without wild dogs yapping at my heels?) Ran errands. Raked out all the leaves from under the bushes outside. Miter-sawed wood to fix box-artwork. Prime painted wood. Did laundry. Cooked a yummy chicken, veggie, ginger, garlic stir-fry dinner (ME,COOKING! Without wild dogs yapping at my heels?)

Ate fresh plums outside in the fresh air...sunlight sparkling off of the juicy parts. You know,Plum-flesh, up close and personal is NOT really red...but is made up of red dots in clearish jelly-ish stuff. Don't take my word for it, go eat one outside in the sun!:)
Ahhh.(you thought I was calling you 'Plum-flesh', DIDN'T you.;)

Of course I was hoping it would last. A few days at least. But today...grey sky again...and the slowness returned..the clouds were in my head and outside my head...and not much getting done.
I've got to jump back into working in the studio. Bought a bunch of small blocks of pine for the baby pieces I want to make. But the circuit breaker has disappeared and I can't bring music into the basement. No music and no air.? waaah. mope.mope.

In the evening, B came home and found me in a pitiful state. He humored me...what might make the lil miss happy? hmmm. A Bloody Mary, I say? And we're off for corn fritters and Bloody Marys because... he's awesome. I brought book therapy with me (Annie Dillard's 'The Writing Life')and read a bit with coffee. Then we went and bought another utility table at Home Depot so I can set up what I'm working on downstairs and not be on the floor. This WILL help. So HOPEFULLY tomorrow can be another Superwoman day- this time with Art.

I love Annie Dillard, too. Pilgrim at Tinker Creek is my favourite non-fiction book.

gush. Isn't she amazing?!:) I LOVED Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, was reading 'For The Time Being' right before the infamous 9/11 which was SCARILY appropriate...
I keep taking out The Annie Dillard Reader from the library these days...wonderful long excerpts from many of her books and bits of her POETRY. I would say she's my favorite author, hands down. Want to buy'Tickets for a Prayer Wheel'- a small book of her poetry next...gush, gush and more!:)DOn't get me started!;)
If you scroll far back in my journal you'll see about 3 entries dedicated to her.

I'm familiar with both of Dillard's poems that you posted; I'm not sure whether I've seen them on the Web somewhere or in Tickets, which I own.

I went and heard her read and speak in Toronto about four years ago when For The Time Being came out. In person, she is not what you would expect: an attractive blond, bubbling forth profound humour, almost giddy. You can read about the experience (with a poem I wrote!) in this article I wrote:

And I wrote something about her on LJ last week:

Your poem about her reflected a lot of the same things I feel.

Hey, one day is better than none.

Sometimes I can find that kind of motivation again by remembering how good it felt to get so much done. Not always, but sometimes.

thanks for the offer but we're going to pass. We're concentrating more on Spanish these days..which I can help him with...and will come in handy when we go visit family inFlorida and PR.
