I've been meaning to post this for a while. It absolutely amazes me and I am convinced it is leading me towards something, an integration of photography into my art, varying presentations, etc. The pictures in my mind are suddenly graspable by camera of all things, and it is so satisfying! I have always been very interested in the idea of microcosms.....but I was unprepared to discover them so VISIBLY when taking photos of my pieces. Take a look at this. Here (below)is a full shot of a new mixed-media piece I call 'Searching'. The mediums are nails, resin, enamel, acrylic, glue on wood....

the images are beautiful.
about how long does it take you to do a piece like that?

Hmmm...it's hard to say, because I was working on a few pieces at the same time quite slowly, going from one to another as the inspiration moved...and some days I just stare and wait until I know what I should do next...but it was a period of I guess about 3 months working on it. But again, I'm VERY slow...a lot of staring and circling. I'm sure it could be 'made' faster...but I just don't work that way.

only when you blink.;) Very odd goings on I tell you...all these little spherical parallel universes in there...each nailhead a galaxy or planet. The sort of thing you expect to disappear when you rub your eyes, but lo and behold the little suckers actually pose for pictures! This world is getting bold in its strangeness I tell you. I love having proof of the weirdness these eyes see.;)

more nail heads!

I did once, making a small artwork for a friend. Made Galaxies of nails within a box...and tipped them with glo-paint for an added surprise when in darkness.:)but that's about it. Didn't seem very archival...

i love it!
photograpy is my other favorite form of art other then sculpture i think --
an idea came to me, you probobly are already thinking on the lines of somthing like this. but i thought abou thow it would be neat to cut small shapes in teh wood and then put the blown up detail pictures of the actule larger piece behind the peice going in ward, and you could even continue along those lines as long as you want, all of which is just somthign that came to my mind-- but wow, yeah these pictures are going to be a whole new medium of creativity and expression for your works!

So many possibilities! I just don't know yet WHAT I want to do. But I LOVE taking the close-up pics! Thank goodness for digital cameras.YAY.It's like finding hidden worlds...
And in other artworks it's like bringing the pieces to life by ridding the viewer of the sense of scale. It can become 'life size' and 'enterable'.:)
