Ok so of course I slept in a weeee bit more after that night. ;) Jane and I took our late morning beach moments. Odd how we ended up at the exact beach spot I was at over..10 years ago...multicolored lifeguard hut and outdoor showers bringing me back...back to a strange other time...first awkward adventure travelling with a much older man...my first collector and the delusion of a trip with 'no strings attached'. Feeling trapped, confused and complicated in a beautiful new place I just wanted to explore, trying to balance my situation and assert myself, failing miserably. Shake off the reverie, I'm here now with Jane, on my own terms, as an artist, older, wiser. I go back to the hotel and shower and change.

Went back to Frisbee for a while. Sara happier to see us all...Seth and I and Bill sitting on the bed are now her 'children' and she is the Mom Gallery and she is laughing and we are happy to see her more relaxed and in a good mood. A woman walks in with a dramatic air about her, sexy in low slung jeans with a belt lightly around her bare waist, short hair in a turban, tall and confident. She's talking with Sara in a theatre voice and telling us all about a cabaret performance she does that she'd like us to see. Sara is inspired and begs her to sing for us right then and there and after a few protests she does...saying oh but you MUST see it with the lights and the costumes and...;)greatfun...she gives a link to her website (ivalyou.com and makes us all promise to come see her perform in NY.
I go through some other rooms looking at the art, meet David Shaw, and we are trying to remember where we might know eachother from. Can't.
Then we are finally off to check out the Aqua Art Fair. Great choice of hotel for a fair...central open courtyard for drinks and mingling (and even to put your feet into a hottub if you so choose- Jane chose;), and then 2 floors of rooms around the perimeter with spacious white walls and mini changing rooms that added a microgallery space to each room (much better than the bathroom spaces at -scope). Highlights include: Yves Netzhammer: 'The Arrangement of Two Opposites While their Maximum Contact is Under Generation', 2005 wall drawing with video loops. Total wow. I stared and stared. Then Ann Hamilton's Untitled: found book with pebbles in birch and glass case, satisfied my to no end...mantra like braille, obsessive yet so utterly tranquil...loved. The director described a full room installation of hers to me with such detail that I was transported...experiencing through the description. I thanked him profusely for that gift.
Met up with my dealers Sally and Jay (MorganLehmanGallery) (who I think will be applying to Aqua and Pulse next year woohoo!)...and we went stopped into a party given by the Canadian Consulate(?) to meet up with some others. Ran into Orly and J. super briefly. And then we were off to get some dinner with Sally, Jay, Paul Kopeiken(who we were speaking with at Pulse) and Jory (don't remember last name but she's an art writer). BEST cuban restaurant, delicious huge meal of ropa vieja over white rice with plantains for $6.95(!!) Could NOT eat it all, but tried.mmmmmm After dinner we ended up with Jory headed to some Visionaire party at The Setai. Once in we ran straight away into Beth,Tapp,Perry and crew and Jory disappeared (:(?)Too bad because I really had wanted to talk to her more...after all, I already know everyone else we were hanging with, wanted to get to know someone new. ahwell. Sweet to talk with Perry about this Shakespeare immersion program that his kids are into. What a great idea, it would've changed my view on Shakespeare had i gone through that. The Setai was pretty amazingly gorgeous in ambience, this HUGE open courtyard all candle and torchlit, with pools of water...but I was getting chilled and my mohito almost choked me with its $20 pricetag (have you EVER?!) and soon we called it a night.
