I just chose this one for my latest 10%Club donation:
Peace Corps Project description:
"The town of Mingechevir, which is currently considered to be the fourth largest town in the country both for its economic potential and the number of population, lies in the central north region of Azerbaijan. Public School #10 in Mingechevir, which started in 1977, educates students from grades 1 through 11. There are 855 students and 100 teachers in total. Though the school cares for their students a great deal, it lacks basic resources most importantly desks, chairs and especially chalkboards. Teachers continue to write on chalkboards purchased before the Soviet Union collapsed. Most of the chalkboards are no longer in their original shape with chunks missing and barely writable making it difficult for students to read. The school has been resourceful in recycling and repainting what desks and chairs it has but over the years the furniture has become less sturdy and chairs have begun to fall part. The children are forced to precariously balance on these seats and desks in order to avoid dropping their books, or themselves, onto the floor. This has made learning much more challenging for the students.
This school therefore, is requesting Partnership assistance to purchase new furniture and chalkboards to improve the quality of learning for the students. The school will provide the labor to install the chalkboards and assemble the furniture as well as provide transportation costs for all materials."
If you can, please consider contributing to this or another Peace Corps Project! Volunteers are out there, doing this beautiful work, let's help make it happen- Little bits really do add up to make a difference!
