"Over the last year or so I've become pretty crazy about the work of Brazilian fashion slave Adriana Bertini and her efforts to break through the stigma surrounding the use of condoms. So I couldn't refuse the chance to pitch in and help out in the adventures of this amazing artist and lovely human being.
I hope you will join me and the artists of Pioneers of Change to send Adriana to the XVI International AIDS Conference in Toronto the 13-18 August 2006!

Here's why Adriana's work is important: Adriana is an outstanding educator, AIDS activist and conceptual and visual artist. Her work treats the loathing and stigma around condom use with equal parts brevity and celebration. Through her vibrant and completely original fashion designs constructed entirely of condoms Adriana brings an entirely new interpretation -- and excitment -- to the phrase, "Wear a condom!" Well, "Wear a thousand condoms" for that matter!

Adriana's work needs to reach and inspire many more healthy and sexually active people, those affected by and living with HIV/AIDS, as well as educators and advocates. You can help make that happen!
With Pioneers of Change we can raise $2,000 to cover the cost of airfare and handling of her work to Canada. Once there, Adriana has commitments lined up for housing, a per diem, and exhibition of her stunning work to thousands of people. Its a complete win!
Okay, since you've read this far, here is the kicker: every contribution of $25 or more enters your name into a drawing to win one of two stunning creations by Ms Bertini. That's right: for $25 bucks or more you might win either a stunning cherry gown or a maverick suit to wear to your next gig. How cool is that?!

Finally a day to paint. It's been raining forever it seems...flooding and grey and thunder. Today it clears a bit. My thoughts whirling...on all topics...of community, immigration, borders and language, networks, groups, clubs, identities. Horrible recent events in the area...anti-immigrant picketing, youth violence.
Attended a meeting regarding this. Main question: How to encourage healthy dialogue between the isolating and misunderstood groups. Thinking of working with teens again. Maybe at the high school?

In the studio I tinker with my little sims, laughing at the juxtaposition of a classic tsunami painting image on an asian art book I just bought and the little worlds. Laughing because I dreamt this. And because I don't know if it's funny. or if I'm awake. yet.
