Trains

I've been carrying my bookjournal around and scribbling in there when I have time...and have become addicted to correspondence volleys via myspace...hard to keep up with all....but I do miss good ol LJ...irreplaceable. I'll never be able to catch up...but I'll throw a few tidbits out of recent times:

Took a trainride into the city and remembered why I LOVE the train...the window view was incredible...so many previously hidden things.. I love seeing the backs of houses...and the forgotten realms of woods and industrial places. Picking out the strangest things. In one part....a bench...in the midst of woods (one house in the background)...on it 2 men are seated...in suits...just staring out silently into the wooded area between them and the train. How I wish I had a picture...how I long to know the story of their sitting. It all seemed so surreal and movie-like.

In another area..far from houses...a clearing in the woods, dirt gravel..and a man sitting right in the dirt...reading a newspaper.

At a waterway there are hundreds of swans.(!) I had never seen more than a few swans at any lake/pond before...here were literally hundreds. A yearly gathering/party of some sort? Or is it a new community of socialswans....happy to live together?

Once in NYC I met up with an LJ cyberfriend in person...[livejournal.com profile] isobel_5 at the Metropolitan Museum..:)
Times/ages always overlap in that space. Who am I meeting and who am I???? Oh yes, that lifetime..'Darlene'...'2006'...it all comes back and dissolves again. I try to seem normal.
Meet 2 of her friends and we all run about in the city...later to a lecture at the MOMA...and then a series of performances down at St.Marks, where I meet yet another cyberfriend in person! that makes...hmmm..let's see...scott([livejournal.com profile] sendao), suzanne ([livejournal.com profile] ninakatz), [livejournal.com profile] captainbigwig, nicola, carolina([livejournal.com profile] isobel_5), and lauren(bender)so far I think. 6 that I knew in cyberspace first? perhaps I'm forgetting. too short the interactions...but it is not the end but the beginning.

missed train back (dumb)so we stayed over Amber's bf's apt. Watched rare bbc special on Kate Bush:).Morning trainride with Amber, nice slowtime catching up.Been too long. Then back out/home for GuildHall Museum show opening. My Janey wins Best in Show!! woohoo!

The next week, [livejournal.com profile] __carina__ comes out for visit and we talk of all sOrts of things...;)over coffee, couches and drives.

In between, lots of working at the high-end consignment shop and allergy misery. Also obsessing on fabrics for Missy Cakeland projects. Hopefully I can show you soom. I can easily/happily look through thousands of fabric images. It's probably unhealthy but it does keep me out of trouble.

Today I'm working on my cigarbox artwork for charity auction (annual thing)....I'm late as usual with this(annual thing). Needed to pour resin today after the linework but it's raining!! ig.

reposting from spicada's post on the [livejournal.com profile] 10percentclub community:

http://www.tomsshoes.com/

"As you can guess from the site's name, they sell shoes. However, the thing that interested me is this:

"For each pair of Toms Shoes you buy, the company will donate a pair to a child in need from Los Piletones, a small village not far from Buenos Aires, where the shoes are manufactured antisweatshop style." and HA I just found out Blake has a MYSPACE page (!) so readmore and friend this guy and repost/spread the word.

It has me thinking... What other companies do this type of thing? We often shop for ourselves and buy gifts for others, but can those purchases be even more? Do more...

In the end, my life will not be remembered by how much I acquired, but what I gave away.
~ Blake Mycoskie, owner"

woohoo. now This makes sense in the big picture. I just bought the camo-patch ones. I know I'd be buying shoes anyway..maybe a bit cheaper...but dammit THIS is the way to do it.:)
