In Short- ChelseaNyCNight
Apr. 8th, 2006 12:12 amThere was...picking up a purple monster in a box (gift from BonacTonic, new monstermaking myspacefriends who actually LIVE OUT HEEEERE IN THE BOONIES NEAR MEEEE)...there was busride into the city, snacks at the Frontier Diner, crazy cursing cabdriver crosstown, getting to the Chelsea art openings.
I would love to get past his 2minute rush people-overload and figure out how to spend more time with everyone in scenarios more conducive to quality conversation. THing is, I just don't usually get out much except for these receptions once in a while...so a multitude of quick hellos and byes with the same faces that I still don't feel I've gotten to KNOW in any more depth...and it's all quite absurd and unsatisfying really. But it's always a good reminder that I WANT to be around other artists more, want to get to know them more. Ahhhh if everyone would just keep a livejournal and a myspace, it'd help me out..geez.;)
Anyway, we ran into John Breiner, who was in the room next to mine at scopeMiami'o4, very cool- he has a show up now at TroyDennigtonTattoo/InvisibleNYC, Bethany Bristow (also on myspace), Orly Cogan, Leemour Pelli, Joseph Hart (who at least I got to talk a Little more with...he shares a studio with Ryan Wallace...I love both their works, would actually love to buy one of Joseph's that Sara's got (if I had the moolah) gotta make a point to visit their studio!. Talked with Laura Ball awhile...she seems like a genuine nice gal, lives in SanFran. Working hard, inspiring.
Ran over to catch Tapp's show and talked long with Beth McNeill, my friend that is becoming a killer ambitious artconsultant. Poking our heads into other galleries in the building...then catching the MLG afterparty at Brite for some free pizza and a 'champagne mohito' (ok I'll take it you know me).
Finally got to talk a little bit with Andrew Shoultz there...I think I was gushing a bit which was slightly embarassing, but comon, how awesome is his stuff like this....and then he throws me for a loop telling me he actually bid on a piece of *mine* at the silentauction at scope.(!?!)*stokedsurprisedblush* Maybe he bid on everyone's, who knows...but how...cool.:)
Sara shows up, fresh off a plane from Washington...it's a little.. weird to be talking with 2 dealers of mine at once...or to be listening to their conversation (Andrew was in the same boat)...there's actually a substantial overlap of artists between MLG and Sara's gallery. They're friendly, it was fine... it was just...a little weird.
ANyway then we ran off to catch JeffyBUnny's jazz show, ran into
__carina__ on her bike in the street, all went onward and met up with Meg and Ladybug over there...ate and drank and listened and applauded our bunnyman's music for as long as we could before running to PennStation, giving into an icecream craving and riding the loooonnnng train back home napping against the B.
