Friday night recap- drove in with B to catch Julie Benoit and Cara Ober's installation of drawings at Riviera Gallery in Williamsburg (a re-installation of Passing Notes). and to to meet up with the slowly/quickly expanding crew of Baltimore-related artists I've been getting to know a bit through myspace. Seth and Christine included. Beer and sweet drawings ingesting...space pretty packed. Approached by a painter who is interested in having me model for him- something about visions/myface/braids. I'm wary of course but take his info. Looking him up today...Brad Kahlhamer. He seems legit, shows with Deitch Projects, I'm intrigued (and a bit scared) by his paintings, but can see where I fit in...it's just a matter of if I have the guts to be with him in his studio for 3hrs. Not much money but maybe if I'm visiting Meg or something..Have to consider. What do you guys think.... should i do it?
Dinner at Planet Thai afterwards with everyone, including the Megster herself who joined us. sake and good food (holy yum, the coconut ginger soup was perfect mmmmm *daydreams*).After that we checked out Meg's new digs...she's in the process of renovating an old building, we went around the basement with lantern/flashlight...old cramped tool rooms.. creeeepy and cool at the same time. SweetMousey gifts me with a hot pink skull-handscreened scarf as we leave.:)
ps:I was cameraless but just found some cute pics on the web of the gallery opening (which lead me to reading amy king's poetry...wow.I heart the magicweb:)

Saturday we drove on up to Katonah for the preview party and dinner in honor of the I ♥ the Burbs show at the Museum. Sippin on a lil emergency mohito bottle for my nerves like a baby. ew that stuff is strong. But wow. I'm pleased as punch with the show.I've never been in a show like this....they transformed the space to support the theme and artworks and it looked amAzing!Walls shaped like houses!! My tondo was Right at the entrance- the very first thing you see (squeee!) and Happy Cells was on the wall next to the door...looking better than it ever has because of the brilliant lighting (all the glitter was sparkling and magical!). I feel...I don't know...like some sort of 'adult' professional artist lol. There's even a catalog for $25. (!!) There was music and fancysnacks and cocktails...a special drink even called the Suburban ha!!!! I loved the show, so many amazing pieces...and I met and talked with a few of the other artists: Sara McKenzie was a sweetheart, and Robert Selwyn and Barbara Griffiths and Tom Gormally and his wife Malayka..(I'll fill this in when I find that lil notebook, my memory's shot). The dinner was at the trustee's house...which was um...very impressive. Paella and wine and art collection and crazy modern furniture...Two dogs made my allergies act up unfortunately, after a while I couldn't really breathe. The drive back was a bit scary with the fog and dark icing roads.

Today, Sunday, we had planned to drive all the way back up there for the public opening and panel discussion...but the weather was crap (snow and ice) and we just wouldn't have made it in time for anything if we made it at all. WIsh I could've been there...and I'm so bummed that I don't have pictures. (Planned to take them today). Hopefully we'll get to go up there again at some point...or maybe send someone to take some good pics.*sigh* If you're anywhere around there- please go see so I know it's not a dream!!:)
