Please Help
Nov. 13th, 2005 01:54 pmI'm really getting frightened by how off the radar the situation in Pakistan following the earthquake has become these days. SO much help is needed, but we haven't seen ANYTHING like the awareness/attention and cooperation that Katrina and the tsunami got. It's practically a non-issue. WHY? I don't get it...and I find it strange and heartbreaking. Please take a quick look at the situation update as summarized in this report.
Can you agree that we really have to try something? If so, please join me in this small request:
Please a few minutes to send an email to amazon.com requesting they put up a donation button? Perhaps with a bit of cooperative abundant persistance we can succeed in that? (remember that having that just having that button up for Katrina relief raised 12.5 Million dollars!!).
My friend Ken and I drafted this letter up and it's what I sent. Please feel free to use it as a quick adjustable template and just cut and paste parts of if you like it.:
Subject: Pakistan Earthquake Relief
To Whom It May Concern,
As a regular shopper at Amazon.com and someone who's donated to the relief efforts for both the Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina through your site, I am very disappointed to see that there is Still no button to donate for relief to the earthquake victims in Pakistan.
Sadly, perhaps due to donor fatigue and media issues, the earthquake has received scant media attention and there hasn't been the groundswell of support that we've seen for the other two natural disasters. Pakistan and the United Nations have repeatedly called for help and have said that the financial aid is far below what is necessary. This is seriously unfortunate as the people in Pakistan, with the approach of winter, face the prospect of much harsher conditions.
Amazon has done great work before and the shoppers at Amazon have come through before. With a record number of shoppers visiting your site for the holidays, this would seem like the perfect time for you to put a donation button and let the power and empathy of Americans be felt in another grief-stricken part of the world.
Thank you for your time and I hope and pray you'll do the right thing. This will be posted to my blogs and community forums.
Sincerely, Darlene Charneco
(you can send to the amazon customer service email or to the customer service phone and/or mail addresses listed here) And please please let me know if you do so I can feel the tiniest bit effective today, kay?
