Friday we went to a really FABulous(you'd probably use the word too if you'd seen) art reception at Sara Nightingale's. Though the crowd had me anxious at first I ended up just loving the whole swanky thang. Solo show of a handsomey Young artist from Baltimore, Seth Adelsberger, who's work and cute mug you can check out in the first pages of New American Paintings mag #57 (the one that should be out now). Funny because I had that 'hmmm I really think I know this guy' feeling and later found out it was probably just because I had poked through that magazine at Borders a while back. I really liked a lot of the works..especially the smaller ones with painting, drawing And collage elements mixed in. He has a sort of younger-contemporary-Cy Twombly-ish thing going on (and I'm a fan of Cy)...with colorful expressive mark-making on white/pale fields...but quirkier colors and snatches of cartoonish imagery. Wished I talked with him more, he seemed sweet and humble. 'Nice-person eyes'.

Anyhoo, to add to this the gallery was set just beautifully..it was pure EYECANDY for avaD...take a white gallery filled with art and add cushy hotpink lounge squares and little bouquets of hotpink and orange gerber daisies and trays of japanese greenprettyFREEfoods and a fullFREEbar?!?! THis starving artist's sweetDreamplayland.;)Thank you Sara for hosting a damn good Friday night! Wish I could offer you all pics because really the aesthetic of the whole space was such a treat. Like being inside a favorite painting and watching the colors dance around.(no i wasn't drunk thank you.)ANyhoo, talking with friends...Darius unfortunately with shocking bad news about his marriage (UGH!!!I want Happy Couples DAMMMMIT), But at least Ladybug and JeffyBunny being so sweet and in love that my heart regained some optimism/relief....

On Saturday B and I drove out to Connecticut for the opening of the group show I'm in, Summer of Love- Redux at Morgan-Lehman Gallery. Thankful for the beautiful weather for the long drive...window open sunshine and coffee and my caffeinated hunbun doing silly top40 sing-alongs at the top of his lungs. Endearingly excrutiating if you can imagine.;)
Two other galleries opened in that small area so they coordinated a gallery night and people were milling in the streets going from one show to the next- quite nice. My tondo 'A Place for Us' was on display as well as 'Resort'. Caught up with girlie-embroiderer Orly and also longtime friend painter Brendan, had some wine out on the porch. Orly's been exploring her "guiltless indulgences" and Brendan's been recently stalking girls at Walmart (as artwork, really!;) so for better or worse I ended up introducing the two. Doing some mental math with what I've gleaned of their personalities makes me wonder if this Might be trouble, but good lord they would've met that night anyway. It could probably be a really good friendship/team if kept... art-focused.

Sunday and Monday, the rest of Memorial Day Weekend, I worked long hours at the shop. Lots of traffic, lots of customers and sales, but all went pretty smoothly and I felt like I handled it fine (yay for good commission days).Happy to be in town actually on such summeryfestive days, and I dressed up fun in skirts and boots and yarn corsage (oh and a little bit more, yes, don't worry yourselves);)
