Fri: Gorgeous evening. Took ferry with B and Carina out to Shelter Island, then across to the North Fork to catch Pony's performance at a film screening/ fundraiser in Orient.
We got there early,(THAT'S a first) and had time to walk around a bit outside...heavenly area....little cottages right by the water, unbearably sweet sidewalk-lined neighborhoods, rocking chairs on porches. Sunset. *sigh*
Pony's singing got me all teary-eyed...she did an excellent cover of Sinead O'Connor's 'Troy', and lots of amazing original material, including one of my favorites: Plastic Lamb.
Then the movie. Nothing could prepare us for the movie. A documentary called 'Arna's Children' about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. At first I was unimpressed/worried by the choppy raw intro and somehow put off by first glimpses of Arna's personality, finding her too aggressive?, etc, But then I found myself being coaxed into the lives of these people, learning about what was really going on..,what was being attempted, until I was on the edge of my seat, filled with anguish, frustration, compassion. The movie MUST be seen. It has very limited distribution right now, but Please keep an eye out for it...and JUMP at the chance to see it. I dont' think these things can be presented clearer any other way than how this was done. You have to watch the whole thing to know what I mean.It was incredible.
After the film, Pony played a few more songs....we yapped a bit with Adge outside and then we gathered ourselves gradually and headed out/back.
Detour for Pizza slices and Loitering in the streets of Sag Harbor til late night ...talking...smelling the fall air....pensive..

Saturday....
Day:Paint marker work on the kitchen table on a 2x2 in progress...second layer spaces.

Afternoon:Stopped at Padula's studio/workshop to discuss backings for my artworks, different woods, etc. Brought nails to hammer into various types and thicknesses to see what we could get away with in order to make the pieces lighter.

Eve:Then met up with the gang (Bunny and Ladybug,Pony, Vitamin V and Dan) and we all took the ferry to Shelter Island for the Small Works Exhibition at Boltax Gallery that I have an artwork in. Had a great time and enjoyed the wine.;)My piece was sold!:)! it's a teeny one (like all the works in the show obviously) but still it's a happy-making thang.Yapping with some other artists I know and love there (like JM)and just feeling the love of being around my crew.My piece was called 'Friends' and showed a network connection of many points...and we had fun deciding which point represented who. New friends (artist ES and his wife/gf)joined us for dinner in Sag Harbor on the way back...They just bought a house on Shelter Island. wow. *sigh* To be able to buy a house...*daydreams*
But
I guess I'd be MORE jealous if I wasn't personally so creeped out by the idea of being stranded on a reeeeally small island with a reeeeally small town feel. I do think Shelter Island is beautiful in the daylight/sunset and to visit...but something....eeek...something gives me chills. it's tooo isolated.? I love solitude. But I need to feel it's a choice. And that when I need to...there are places in reach to go to and be around people. Like a main town nearby that includes a healthy flow-through of people I Don't know. Maybe I just don't trust my sanity enough, I think I would go off the deep end there, lost in my imagination without a thread. I know just where I'd love to live. I hope it's possible one day. I think it will be.
(optimism is good.):)
