A few summer days and nights
Jul. 5th, 2004 10:31 pmS & J of the Connecticut gallery came for a studio visit to see new works...went well methinks, showed them around and explained some of the concepts and inspirations and they wanted to stay talking about it much longer than I expected. :)
I made a healthy light dinner and super heavy dessert to ruin it;)...they stayed over so we could all hit the beach the next morn. my first beach day of the season. perfect temp......B and I made a sand monkey sphinx and attempted to delay its demise with walls and moats. J browsing real estate booklets and napping...S chuckling and laughing aloud from a David Sedaris novel she's reading ( I so love uncontrollable laughter outbreaks- one of those endearing human things), eating grapes...talking about Scope.... rereading some of Borges' Labyrinths.
Other days...I'm working on art..pouring resin on 'Grandma's Cottage'. Reading Italo Calvino's 'Invisible Cities' and loving it. Writing in my bookjournal...thinking...daydreaming...brainstorming...sketching...thinking.
One day B and I went for a late afternoon walk around the nighborhood and happened upon a new bar/restaurant opened soooo nearby! Walked in to check it out and it's an old friend from college (and club days) who opened it. :) He shows us around...it's beautiful- asian inspired....gorgeous intricately carved tables and wood screens...buddha statues outside...I love it. And guess what- it was designed by the set designer who owns two large artworks of mine and who had leased other works for the sets of movies(!) Small world. no??We promised to come by soon.
SO when Ms. Vitamin V came out and wanted badly to go out dancing I offered that we walk from the house to this place Sat. night. B went for a while with us, to check out the scene, and perhaps to visually establish himself as my significant other (he was ALL pda). hee;). He had to work early next morn so left soon after. More crowded than I expected...but fun..V and I drank sweet cosmos in tall skinny glasses and eventually got to dancing. Ran into a few familiar faces, a few blasts from the past. About 2:30 V and I walked home breathing in the sweet night air... talking about the stars and moon and the bigger picture and earth from above...wondering...sighing...
Laughing exhausted and tipsy at the kitchen table, talking over the Texas Toast I HAD to have on getting home... oh the memories. I used to be um...a little bit bad. Now I hardly ever go out. Which is fine. Once in a while is enough for me.
Work hungover the next morning at the boutique. joy.came home to sleeeeeep.
Then work again today with Fourth of July parades and crowds...ugh...exhausted again. Still Fuzzified/unfocused.
Tomorrow I hope to get my brain back...to work on art and ideas.
