Full Steam Ahead
Jun. 24th, 2004 09:12 pmOn fast forward now. Went into NYC yesterday to deliver an artwork to a collector. On the bus in, I found the voices, (rhythms, cadences)of the conversations going on to be oddly soothing. Felt a tenderness towards humanity, the conversations really seemed so earnest and innocent.
Carrying the piece (2ftx2ft in bubble wrap and plastic)I walked to our prearranged meeting spot uptown and then we had lunch at a nice place with outdoor seating (ahhhh) which was SOOO refreshing in the beautiful sun and breeze (Her treat!woohoo!:)
Then ran downtown to get art supplies....hit the plastic shops on Canal Street, then Pearl Paint, then Soho Art Supplies, then The Compleat Sculptor. Finally, exhausted and dehydrated, backpack full and lugging 2 gallons of resin I give up on trying to find a cute 'new to me' spot to sit down and instead just go into a Starbucks for lemonade, iced coffee and a sandwich.
Could've slept right there.
Then back uptown to catch the bus back home.
Today I've been working on art all day and night on fast forward, stressed because photos are needed of the new works to submit to Scope and they are SO NOT DONE!! eek.
Morning...Cutting and measuring and gluing papers to the lay-out part of 'Grandma's cottage'..This precision stuff is driving me batty. Geez, the art spirits could've given this assignment to an architect, no? Training, D, training....do the work and you'll find out why later.
Afternoon taping and setting up everything in the garage for the pour. Lugging tables and sawhorses...trying to make things level despite an annoyingly unlevel floor.
Late afternoon to night-MAJOR resin pour on five pieces. Hours of mixing and pouring and heat gun for bubbles...biting my lip, praying not to mess up. Missing things that could've made it easier, but no time to get them...no time to stop.
Now finally at 9 PM I'm sitting down...taking a break here on the internet. Haven't eaten anything, feeling fuzzyyyyyy. Every so often I go in and check to make sure no mosquitos or gnats have decided to make their last dives into the resin. *big sigh*
I'm pooped.
