That's MS. Happy-Face to you
Mar. 1st, 2003 01:02 amWell, I guess it was one of those minor short dark tunnels we go through in life and now I'm on the sunny outside laughing and smiling and lovin life again! Today was such a great day. First of all the swelling in my face went down finally and it's ME staring back at me from the mirror. What a strange high to just recognize yourself.Pity it always seems to take some illness or accident to point out the things we take for granted. I missed my own face, strange,no? Secondly, the studio visit went really well. It was actually just what I needed to feel on track again. She was enthusiastic and wants to include me in the first show of the season (yay!).Maybe even my large 'Awaiting a Vision' piece if we can manage it. That would be SO cool. But even if it were smaller pieces...still cool.:)She took the recently completed weave piece with her to show some clients (fingers majorly crossed oh I hope I hope). I need a sale pretty badly now, savings pretty much depleted.
So afterward, in good spirits, B and I drove out 'west', being silly and singing full-force and car-dancing along to the cheesiest top 40 music on the radio. Yes, I'm still Jenny from the Block, folks...dontcha worry bout my FAMOUSARTISTNESS....hehe.
We stop into a thrift store to browse and I end up buying a crazy ancient looking hammer- the texture of it was just crazy...I have a few old hammers now...I imagine hanging them on a wall someday as a collection, they're just so interesting to me. To think of all the stuff they must have been a part of...
Then to Borders we go! Yeeha. And lookee here it's our friends band playing- ha, has this world gotten even smaller or is it me? I check out some books in the art section, one of Anselm Keifer's that I look at a lot(yum), and one I haven't seen called Lifestyle by Bruce Mau (Phaidon)- Very cool and aesthetically pleasing pink brocade fabric cover...my booklust ignited I find the contents interesting as well. But with a $75 pricetag, it will remain on the shelf unpurchased by starving artists that's for sure.
Refreshing to see interesting looking folks all around. Coffee-bar girls are both yummy-punky.Looked through some art mags, Flash Art, Sculpture, and FiberArts..had my first small coffee in almost a week (tastebuds do a dance!)with a shot of caramel syrup.Listen to the sounds...:)Yap a bit with the familiars. C. just home from driving cross-country.
During the drive home I'm entranced again by the beauty of the lights on the night road. Have GOT to take pics of this soon...translate what GETS me into a piece somehow....GOOD music finally on the radio...some experimental tech stuff, luscious sounds...fitting the scenery so perfectly...causing all sorts of artfireworks in my head...but of course it fades out as we get closer to home.So now I play Amon Tobin's Bricolage while writing this to extend the mood...and at 2:04 AM I bid you all a good night.:)
