The Book of Questions

The Book Of Questions
What is a Thought? What is a Word? What is a Memory? What Am I? What Is Human? What is Life? What is God? Where is God? Who is God? What is Time? What is Space? What is Reality? What is a Mind? What is a Brain? What is a Soul? What is Love? What is Need? What is Desire? What is the Largest thing? What is the Smallest Thing? What Size Am I? What is Fear? What is Happiness? What is Emotion? What is a Question? What is a Visible Object? Where is Art? - The Book Of Questions is a series of 9 paintings or 'pages' each containing three questions 'written' within a coded sequence of nails, within a center black square. Surrounding the squares are explorations of the images and colors that often arise in my mind during meditation and contemplation of the specific questions. - The pieces are also intended to encourage a similar exercise within the viewer, who may, (with eyes closed), let fingers 'read' the questions, and allow associated colors and images be born in their own mind's eye.

Not silly at all. When I do the exercise with eyes closed...I often begin with seeing open space....I have to deliberately ask a 'color/mood' question to have an overall color filter the space in my imagination. It's strange but I will ask myself, what is the color of this question? Or what is the color of desire? the color of fear? what are the shapes...etc.And then the picture will begin to form...and then I tried to recreate the feelings shapes and colors I saw/felt in the paintings.

what is a question? wow!

it'd be great if you could post close-up photos of (some) of the books...
hard to catch any detail in the full span.
why a series of nine? one for each planet in the solar system? ;)

9 has always been my special number...it just felt right. And when I thought up the idea of three questions to a 'page' it worked out as such. Of course there are infinite questions...but these were the major ones in my mind at the time. There are two pics on my website(on my user info page) of two of the individual pages if you'd like to see. And if there's a certain question/page you want to see other than those, let me know and I will try to post a pic.:)

nine is my number too. 9 members of the fellowship of the ring, 9 planets, 9 symphonies by beethoven... it's a cosmic number :)

the pics on your site are great. you've got a wikkid portfolio! i couldn't make out the questions on the book pieces... the nails write out the text?
really dig the question concept. it's been echoing through my mind all day :)

yep. 3 questions written out in a sequence code of nails within those black squares. The questions are in the order listed so if you count off by threes you'll see which pieces correspond to which questions. :)

Just wonderful! I may well use those questions as journal prompts

It's taken me a while, but I finally decided how to do this. I've set up my yahoo calender to mail me each question, on a day, starting this coming monday. I plan to write about each question each day, and post what I write to my LJ. How do you want me to credit you for the questions?

I might put together a little 'zine from those writings. If I do, I'll get a copy to you.

WOW. I am so happy that you will be doing that! And looking forward to your writings! If you can link to my post with the paintings on it, that would be great! If not, it's no big deal...I'm just really happy that it inspired you!:):)
