A Place for Us

Big steps. The gallery is submitting a quarter-page ad to Art in America for the December -scope Miami show. (!!)And I'm splitting the cost,( oh dear god).
But I Really think this is an investment that I HAVE to be ready to make and take a risk on.
It's an opportunity unlike any other I've had...the timing with ArtBasel...etc. A whole body of work there...at a time when so many art collectors are visiting the area.

So, that's it. Goin for it.Giving it my best shot. Doing it. Doing it. Don't look, just JUMP!!
We'll have to pack and drive all the work down to Miami...eek...in a rental minivan/van.
And then B can't even stay with me there (!)...has to return to work. Ga. *breathe* I know I can't be angry...but I am disappointed.
I wanted it to be a business/pleasure type of thing...we've never taken a real 'vacation'..and it would have been so nice...sure it'd be work, but 4 days of the art fair accented by beach, dancing, exploring, hotel fun celebration whathaveyou).

I'm trying hard to imagine it now without him, and I can't. Yes, I've become a baby. (I've got to chuckle to myself...Once upon a time this girl that is me walked downtown Miami in buckles and black boots, looking for adventure and lesbian bars, feeling fiercely independent. But that was a different me, a different time..long ago...seems like a strange dream now.I'll have to rekindle that braveness, without resurrecting all the um..associations.I am my own delicate brain surgeon;)
Or I can always take the easy way out and drink myself to sleep in my hotel room. ha. (ugh)
NO. Promise to self: I will enjoy this trip. I will celebrate it. I will not hide.Because it IS such an amazing dream come true and I want to feel it all.
Here's the ad mock-up..It's getting worked on now..text is not correct, just thrown on there, no booths, just rooms etc).
It's a detail shot of the tabletop tondo..'A Place for Us' (resin, glitter, mixed media on wood, 42"diameter)Eliav, pick your casita.;)

Let me offer you a massive HUGE congrats! I'm going to be sure to pick up that issue of Art in America - I can't wait to see how the ad turns out. And you'll do fine in Miami, too bad you won't get to have fun with B, but hey, this is all about you, it'll turn out great... I can feel it. :)

thanks sweets! wish you could too. But I'll post some pics at least.:)

[identity profile] unluckymonkey.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
THAT'S AWESOME! Congrats dear. That's gonna be SO lovely. I used to have to take business trips by myself and it's SO meditative to think outside the usual confines and focus on your goals and your fun. Ok maybe not lesbian bars ah how I miss roving them myself but it will be big and important and I think you'll really love it.

The ad looks fabulous! I'm assuming you've got a web addy on there somewhere?

[identity profile] avad.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
yup, it'll have the gallery web address and phone...

PS snooks that icon pic/animation is DA BOMB!! How super adorable are you.
love it.

[identity profile] unluckymonkey.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
you should put your web address on it as well. Or at least I would I don't know if the gallery would be fussy but since you're paying for half.
One of these days I'm gonna strike up a deal with you for making a super cool flash site for a piece. >giggle< OR a painting!

ahh thanks dearie I can't honestly look at my gnu icon for long it bobbles out my eyes!

[identity profile] avad.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, can't do it (put my site on). The gallery is putting out a lot in order to feature my work there...they rent the room and deal with a lot of the other expenses. And my work is really 'featured', they're not bringing much of any other work.I've got to really honor them as 'representing me' for this.
having my own site on the ad would be like saying hey buy from the artist direct. Kindof a faux-pas.
Besides, in this day and age, all you have to do is google my name and there it be.y'know? That's how I find artist's sites all the time, after seeing something somewhere that caught my attention...
B's working on my site a bit now...you're a doll, and a suPAH talented webby but dangit you'd have to LIVE here so i could agonize with you over every detail, y'know? Artists are the Worst to design for I think. We don't know what we want, but we know what we want. It has to be like...THIS !*waves hands emphatically in utter vagueness*;)You see? poor B.

[identity profile] unluckymonkey.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
oh I hadn't thought of that! oops!

HAHAHA yeah I can hardly design for myself. Designing for others seems to go well but nothing covers everything if I'm making it for me. I change it CONSTantly.

Well I can't wait to see it hun! I drooled over your work for a while before actually talking to you so having it in an even better site will rock!

[identity profile] minorsecond.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It looks great! I'm proud of you. :)

[identity profile] avad.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs* thanks, kiddo. I'll bring a lil pic of your face with a 'go girl' thumbs up to peek at.;)

You don't have to trade me anything, silly.
I've got an awesome print of yours already!:)
(crazy kids...)

[identity profile] captainbigwig.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll raise you 20 bottles of rum for the blue house with yellow roof!

Those are neato did you construct those all by hand the detail is intense.

brought to you by E z off Iron cleaner, make your iron glide even when it's hot no need to wait for it to cool.

[identity profile] avad.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
20 bottles?? hmmm. wow. well, if you make it wine or champagne I'll start discussing it.;)
hee. those two houses are made of these vintage plastic thingies I scored off of ebay. I painted them, but didn't construct them. Wish i could find more..but haven't yet. I've got other model houses..train set types...but I'm in love with the simplicity in these..
heh. you really know how to infomercial a late-night gal.

[identity profile] captainbigwig.livejournal.com 2004-10-27 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
champagne is great! Maybe we should start a LI champagne vineyard, since it's all vino out east.

Did you get the N scale train houses? The are small but not small enough :I

[identity profile] avad.livejournal.com 2004-10-27 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
yup. I've got one n-scale half-assembled here...of 'three suburban houses'(model power)...not quite sure bout it. The size is Almost right...for these bigger pieces..a teeny bit smaller would be better, ya.We'll see. If I can dap it up enough like caaaaannnndy...I might like it.

[identity profile] avad.livejournal.com 2004-10-27 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
ps..mmmm champagne....
one sip of that crazy elexir has me wanting to giggle. It's a strange one, love it.

[identity profile] rokkitz.livejournal.com 2004-10-27 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
EEEEK! HOOOOOSES! i'd tumble down the stairs in excitement... if there were any stairs to tumble down around here...

[identity profile] avad.livejournal.com 2004-10-27 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
hee. no stairs. you'll have to work a bit on the interiors, I've just been concentrating on these here walkin spaces for our talks. Ive got a few interiors (in other pieces)...borrowed loosely from Polly Pocket...hehe, will post those when done..maybe you'd like to meet me at Suki's Tea House or Grandma's Cottage?

[identity profile] crazedartist.livejournal.com 2004-10-27 06:37 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] labrujah.livejournal.com 2004-10-27 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
Looks great! One of my best friends works for a photo gallery and sometimes goes to Miami. If she goes this year, I'll hook you guys up. She said it's really fun (kind of nerve-wracking b/c it's work) but that there are crazy lavish parties all the time.

[identity profile] avad.livejournal.com 2004-10-27 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
thanks! Yup, I'm a bit (understatement) nervous about it all. But HAVE to make it fun. Lemme know if she goes!:)

[identity profile] fragiletender.livejournal.com 2004-10-28 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I'm so excited for you - I hope it goes well.

[identity profile] avad.livejournal.com 2004-10-28 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
thanks sweetie! I hope so too! eep!:)

[identity profile] pinkarmadillos.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
i really think your table top towns are really great so im going to add you to see more pictures of them later. i think you should make a book too.

[identity profile] avad.livejournal.com 2004-11-23 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
aw thanks so much! and a book would be great....I've been trying to figure out how I can incorporate the detail photos I take that I like so much...because you really lose the sense of scale and such...
hmmmm maybe one day!:)
