Studio

OK. I'm tired. Almost 3AM...and just came up from the studio...been working all day...painting, painting...just the undercoats of the tondo tabletop piece. So much more to go.
In the meanwhile,
Here are some detail pics of some of 3 pieces that made it to the resin levels stage:

I love your work, these pieces are just beautiful. I'm going to ditto the "when's your next show?" I wish I could see them live since I'm sure these photos aren't even close to as amazing as the work is in person.

[identity profile] avad.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
thanks so much!:)
Well, hmmm I'll be in a show in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in November and then I'm totally excited and nervous to be in Scope Miami, which is a contemporary art fair that runs from Dec.2-6 in a hotel in Miami. I know both are pretty far for you though. :(
Say, by the way, I peeked your portfolio, and I love that self-portrait diaristic series!! Definitely get what you mean about perception of self...wonderful expressions and 'non-poses'.Would love to see a book of some sort:)

[identity profile] ninakatz.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for taking a look! :)

Hopefully someday your art will cross my path in the flesh. Until then, good luck at the Miami fair - I bet you'll do great.

If you have a mailing list btw, I'd love to join so I can keep up with your upcoming shows and new works.

[identity profile] avad.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)

WOW. SO beautiful! SOMEday I will see some of your work in person. I will I will. I envy your sense of direction will all my being. I'm reaching breaking points on some things so direction will probably take me instead of me progressing into it.

oh no! where's the gnat? Are you serious?Did I miss him?
Dang critters don't underSTAND the dangers they're in when it's resin time.

oh man, if i were playing a game of RISK on your pieces, i'd take the blue crystal city and surrounding microchip gardens and hold 'em against all invaders! THIS MICROCITY ISN'T BIG ENOUGH FOR THE TWO OF US! oh wait, yes it is ;o)

How much are you selling them for, and do they have to be bought at an art show?

[identity profile] avad.livejournal.com 2004-10-07 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
hey there.:)well, I do mostly sell at art galleries and shows...but once in a blue moon people contact me through my website (http://www.darlenecharneco.com) out of the blue or through friends...
the works really range in price...from about 500 to 8000 depending on size mostly.

Did you play with legos as a kid? Some of your work reminds me of old board games I would find at my older cousins' house. Looking at them makes me want to make one.

[identity profile] avad.livejournal.com 2004-10-08 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
hee. I still play with legos as an adult!:) and yes, I'm also inspired by vintage boardgames! it seems a good way to convey the playful nature of the evolution of virtual worlds and online networks... bits or bricks...many web building programs have a very Lego-like sensibility so it's perfect to use the toys themselves in some pieces..like these:
