Hanging out on the Web

And in the morning I watch the squirrels and the birds in the backyard....and the look of the birds in branches makes me think of the internet...and of the evolution of shared spaces/environments...so that like these birds...we will be going about our business, link to link, branch to branch, with an awareness of others (if we choose). And I watched for quite a while...the oh look, what is this, the let's all go here, the I want to be alone/apart, the hi theres of these birds pecking about the yard, flitting about the tree networks...
Heh. I'll call these two pics 'Hanging out on the Web'.

yeup, that's the one with the big honky bird trying to sit with all the chirpy little sparrows. dead funny! ah, anthropomorphic humour!

i'd be pretty stoked as a bird on a treebranch or something somewhere... maybe as one of a line of pelicans skimming for fish? or an owl mysteriously hooting somewhere in the gloom? or swarming at dusk with the other swallows? could you imagine that you're one of those birds with a really weird call? like a goose? or a starling?

dood, where's merlin when you need him?!?

These are awesome, Ava :) Beautifully portrayed.

I keep getting teased by networks these days... lately I've been looking for a program to help me organize my thoughts. I run Linux instead of Windows, so there are a couple of options, but none of them are in a fully developed status...

There's Dashboard, a clue-mining program which references current conversations, webpages, pager calls, etc into a database and refers you to related information about your friends, interests, etc...

That's the big one. Also Haystack looked interesting... but it's also incomplete... that one's a manager for information of all sorts.

thanks!:)

Dashboard sounds interesting...but a bit overwhelming for me actually. Although i'm sure it would be useful in many instances i would be nervous because it Seems to beg for tangential distraction. Even having my 'favorites list' open while I try to type an e-mail makes it difficult for me...hours later i find myself somewhere else and the e-mail is still in draft.;)

A bit of ADD eh? :) I think the point of what I want to do is to provide not tangents, but instead what William Gibson calls 'Nodal points' in the network that is a mind. The hard part is, how do you detect a 'nodal point'? Well, it's not really possible at this point as far as I know, but let me give a little bit of background in my journal.

Nice pics. Cool thoughts. I'm still looking for new ideas and images for my revising Tendril Through Cyberspace. This gives me something to think about.
