LJ Match

I had assumed that this LJ Match thing that was spreading like wildfire was a program that filtered through all the interest lists of LJ users to give you links to the people who score the most interest matches with you.
I was terribly disappointed to see the questionnaire...one of my pet peeves is this a or b, true/false crap that seems untrue and vague and useless whichever way you answer. Ergh. I started it out of curiousity and then gave up in disgust. Does anyone know if what I mentioned in the first sentence exists? THAT seems quite simple and logical.

i was unable to access the LJ Match thingie... disappointing to hear it's vague and useless; i'm much more interested in real communication than pet peeves... i was under the impression that paid users had access to a similar function that returned a list of people with similar interests (for all that means... define a person's interests in 150 words or less), but since i'm a freebooter (argh! like a pirate!) i can't access this function...

another thought... isn't this in a way what civil energetics is for? protocols for communication, like, between people or something? hmm...

The LJ Match as I found out is really a dating service. or aspires to be. Based on a really tiresome questionnaire. I'm just curious as to a simple filter that would find through matching the interests on our user info pages, the people with the MOST matches in common. I mean who knows, there might be someone out there with exactly and All your pledged interests...down to the most silly and obscure. Wouldn't you be curious? Meet your doppelganger kindof thing.;)
I like to search through interest...but I only know how to do it one at a time.

I don't have a very concise idea about civilenergetics and matchmaking. I have this itchy feeling that matchmaking isn't "meta" enough for inclusion in the CE 'canon', although a robust meta-language should be able to address it as a subset of a larger equation. Where/how do people meet? What's the social attrition rate? Could we be less isolated in our lifestyles?

In the same way that a water filter claims to address water pollution, or earplugs claim to address noise pollution, matchmaking services claim to address lonliness. All three claims are fraudulent, the trick is to define the pollution/problem in such a way that it can be addressed beyond the symtom-management approach.

...at least, that's my first take on it. This smells like a good topic!

not really "matchmaking" per se, but i'm generalizing the concept to an improvement in person-to-person communication... and i consider anything that improves the quality of communication relates back to that whole consciousness calibration thing... "matchmaking" shouldn't be synonomous with "dating", although they are related, matchmaking functions at a higher level (maybe not quite meta)... hmm...

THANK YOU!! I'm a ditz for not looking for it myself. I'd rather complain I guess.;)Of COURSE it exists! yay! thanks again.

You're welcome! I think for a while they took that feature away because it was too expensive, or something...

Meh, yeah. I don't know if what you're talking about exists, but my own two cents is that I started to do it too, and gave up in digust at "Height and weight between ___ and ____" ...what the fuck is that? I don't know? I don't say to myself, "oh she's PERFECT...only, an inch / inch and a half too short..." I realized at that point, yes, this is some bullshit singles / dating bullshit. Fuck, I don't even get with people like that;

"our statistical data matches congruously. we should court and possibly copulate." LJMatch, suck my fucking ass.

*thinks a bit* 'course, I am on the comet-tail of being drunk, so I'm sure I sound a bit more teeth-gnashy than I really am, but I guess...I just am kind of irked. Annoyed.

*shrugs*
Kind of.

hehe. I have no problem with the general idea of "our statistical data matches congruously. we should court and possibly copulate." It's amusing, harmless and far better than "you and I are the last people in the bar, this could work".
;) BUT what I have a big problem is with HOW this 'statistical data' is compiled. If it's a questionnaire like that one, I'd be better off throwing a sock to see if I hit someone. The questions don't Mean anything to me and I could answer many ways on each. I'm already in a wonderful relationship. I'm just always open to finding kindred spirits and LJ is a great forum for that.
THIS simple tool I find much more interesting: http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?mode=findsim Just for curiousity's sake (don't remind me about the cat) courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] darius check it!
