Magical Visitors

looking up from my laptop...to see a magical visitor outside my window:)
deerwindow

everything in sun sparkles and she so beautiful

I opened the window and we stared at eachother. She even took 2 steps closer sort of inquisitively! I hummed soothingly...and spent a nice time gazing as she walked aound the yard.

It took me a long while before I even noticed she was not alone.! After a while more they crept out of the yard into the woods. I felt very blessed by the visit. Later I went to paint in the studio...and returned just now to upload these pics. As I did -out of the corner of my eye I saw flashes of white in the yard...I thought it was a seagull flying?? But as I went to see clearer it was the deer who had returned...running in CIRCLES and returning to her friend and running again in a cicle, playing in the center of the yard...white tail catching the light. (!!) I could not get the camera...I was too astonished. It was as if she wanted attention? I opened the window and talked to them for a while....*sigh* it's all so magical to me...

It really is a blessing when creatures of nature feel safe enough to come close, let you watch, or, even more amazing, interact with you... let you feed them or even touch them.

It is a bittersweet thing for me. Because I want to tell them to be careful, that not all of my kind are nice, and some of them like to use trickery to try and harm them just out of maliciousness.

When I was at the UCSC campus, there were a lot of deer roaming around. The dorms are practically right in the forest. You have to walk through the forest to get to places. It's beautiful and wonderful, like something out of a movie.

So sweet..
Maybe animals can feel you are a good person. I think they can.

Ah, and not merely deer but red deer at that. How wonderful. :-)

They can be very inquisitive (and I did once have a whole herd run down a hill just next to me, which was slightly scary, though amazing!). But to get that close to you in only a small group you must exude a very peaceful atmosphere. Yay for you!

oh that must've been amazing (and yes a bit scary!)
I wish I could tell certain ones apart...maybe over time...wonder if the one who came close could possibly be the same one I encountered and gazed at a while back:

one seems more slender...

I was under a misconception about where you live. I just thought, "New York City". Now when I try to picture you working I will see deer running around. :-)

hehe. yeah, a lot of folks naturally think of NYC...but I'm far out on long island...bays and fields and small towns. Suits me better. I love the energy of the city...but only to visit, I'm easily overwhelmed......for everyday I love quiet and green and cricketsong...slower pace.

Just like me an Toronto, which I love to visit. Unfortunately where I live isn't quite as bucolic as your place sounds. I would love to live in the country again.

unfortunately, like many places, it's threatened by suburban/exurban sprawl....farms/fields being bought out to subdivide into McMansions, highways expanding, etc. It's such a big issue (a lot of what my Cyburbia artwork series was taking a look at)..As I guiltily love it here and can't blame anyone else for wanting to move out of the city...I'm trying to look at patterns and possible solutions....Hoping to help bring awareness to some smartgrowth (http://www.smartgrowth.org/about/default.asp) possibilities...
