-scopeHamptons weekend (lotso art links)
Still a week behind on updating here...I'm trying...ok...last weekend was -scopeHamptons. Running about with the lovely Amber and Blackwatch and the german sisters, Vitamin V and
__carina__.
I enjoyed -scope a lot. GOod connect with John of Ada Gallery..the guy is SO nice each time we meet and I love the aesthetic/vibe of his booths. I was particularly delighted by works by Kate Woodliff there...extremely quirky and sweet fabric collages pinned to the wall. Satisfying my DIY and art mesh longings. He wants me to come and show my Gameland works at his gallery in Richmond in April(:)!), woohoo for getting to explore new unknown areas!
I bought a book by Franco Mondini-Ruiz called High Pink: Tex-Mex Fairy Tales....couldn't resist the combination of fake food sculpture and Sandra Cisneros quotes and essays.
But I Absolutely and seriously fell in love with one artwork that I can't stop thinking about. Patte Loper's small watercolor 'Visitation' at LyonsWier gallery....I want this piece desperately....for all it represents for me. ugh. it. makes. my. soul. cry. :

It would complement so perfectly the small piece Janey gave me of my favorite work of hers, Closer Far Away:

for this also speaks this profound unspeakable to me.
(Janey's work was featured at Boltax Gallery booth- it looked great and she did well with sales- I'm so happy. SHe's amazing.)
I could've stayed hours at the Perpetual Art Machine interactive video section of the fair, clicking through short animations and films on touch screens. I was moved by the eerie photographs of children by Rachelle Mozman from her series 'American Exurbia'...(metaphor gallery) and by the works of Tucker Nichols at Lincart gallery. OH and I Finally met Grant Haffner in person at Silas Marder Gallery booth. :)! He's the one of the Bonac Tonic crew responsible for the awesome purple felt monster that is my car's mascot. Also does beautiful paintings of which I am having trouble finding even one picture of on the web (nudge, nudge). Sweet guy that I am kidnapping as friend.. even though he or his minions are quite pushy and cryptic with reminders..ahem..;)
I missed a few important areas of the show...but as usual was the last one of my group to come out..
Pleasantly surprised to see Amber and Brent elbow deep in paint going nuts on the 'kids' interactive castle construction outside. awesome.
We all grabbed some pizza and then headed on to catch the collaborative mural reception at the Parrish museum that 2 friends of mine participated in...met up with Piper and Jacob and hung out at their apartment right above the flower shop...nice bohemian feel, with art materials everywhere drinking wine out of camping cups.:)
Sunday we went to check out the Robert Wilson Watermill Center openhouse...performances by Cambodian dancers and gospel singers...walking through the woods...lovely. Then Piper and Jacob came back to our place and we hung out sharing stories and art all night. awesome weekend.
