Spider webs are the impetus for my first 'connections' piece. I had been thinking about the links between people....and working towards that in my art...but one day I was sitting in the backyard as the sun was getting lower in the sky. I was so relaxed and I was looking at everything in such a way that it was as if my eyes were auti-focusing slowly at whatever I turned to. And as I stared at the grass I caught the sun glinting off a spiderweb...and with that new 'setting' on my eyes I looked around and I could see that spiderwebs were absolutely everywhere...connecting all through the lawn and in each bush or tree...the entire backyard was a trail of web and I had never seen it before! Now this is one of my favorite seeing exercises by the window....seeing the web traces. After that experience I felt more determined to use the monofilament (called Spider-Line!) on my pieces to represent those invisible connections between people in our world.
