Channeling Funds;) (x-posted to the [livejournal.com profile] 10percentclub)

As 10%ers we become very aware over time that "We are just vehicles through which something that is needed is passing." (Rabbi David A. Cooper)

At the time I wanted to help most those suffering from the tragedy of Katrina...and felt the tightest financial constraints in doing so, I was suddenly contacted by an art director again (yes the one who rented pieces for 'Heights') who tells me she now wants to rent artworks ASAP to use in in filming for an upcoming TV series called The Bedford Diaries. (:)?!)
SO I rushed images to her and they chose 3 of my largest pieces for the shoot, came and picked them up and I somehow within a few days had a nice-sized check in my hand! So, One, rent was taken care of...and then with the 10% donation from that I was able to donate to the Red Cross (through Google to Amazon.com to Red Cross in order to add to the registered flow counter of that networking method). Doubled that donation by alerting the Quilters Comfort America's Matching Fund Campaign, and then also donated to my friend Kenny's project for the hurricane refugees in his hometown area of St.Landry Parish, Louisiana. (See previous post)
These are some of the things that I mentioned start happening....Brent calls it Bucky magic when my rent money appears like that...my view has something to do with energy currants and helping things go as they want to go...being willing to be a vehicle and making the promise that you will not horde wealth but rather use it to help where it is so needed;)Both ways it's good welcome 'magic'.

It's refreshing to hear someone else life with the same faith that things just work out. I grow weary of my computer programmer friends shaking their heads at my social work or other's work that doesn't bring in 100K/year. People don't understand how little we really need and how little correlation there is between wealth and happiness.

I'm glad you're good for another while. :)

Excellent! Congrats!

In addition, I've heard from a couple of people that no matter what amount of money they spend, they always end up with just barely enough to get by. Odd hm? Perhaps it's some similar strain of economic magic. ;)

Wow - congrats on the rental and pubicity of your work and how great it is that the $$ came when it did???
Go you!

Check out my blog entry from Sept 13... A gaggle of gals volunteered here in China asked if they could help me with the afghan project that I am donating to. They have pledged 100 squares for afghans...
so wonderful!
THEN - after talking with the owner of the factory at lunch yesterday he asked if I could help him donate $5K to the red cross. SInce the products his factory makes are mostly sold in the US he felt it his duty to help the people of the US since they have kept him and all of his staff in business. See -- this is why I adore the folks I work with!

A wonderful comment I got on my blog that I thought you'd appreciate.. "I still have this ugly quilt given after Hurricane Andrew. It was my blanket when I slept on the floor, a cozy cover when we got a real couch again, a picnic blanket on trips, and a dry place to rest during recent concert events. I love it!
thanks for the info on where to donate."

That's exactly why I'm working on the Afghan project.

I Miss seeing you girl!! Any chance you'll be in NYC this fall?

D-
The address to send yarn to is the same --
Sonni Strong
321 Howard ST. #4
Medina, OH 44256

I updated the entry to read "send 12" squares and/or yarn to:"

Thanks for catching that. I just cut and pasted what Sonni had sent and didn't proof it (bad me!)

Feel free to pass any of it around -- feel free to send folks to my blog... it's an inspiring thing to behold in person and I'm trying my best to allow others to take part long distance!
You'd love these folks! So warm and caring!!!
Cheers! xx K

10%

This is neat. I am still working my way up to 10%. Currently at more like 5%. My social programs of interest are Senior Orphans (a local group that helps seniors who are often eating cat food and going without normal hygienic products because they have no family and are subsisting on social security), PETA, the Physician's committee for responsible medicine (www.PCRM.org, the Animal Legal Defense Fund, and my local SPCA.

After Katrina, I did 10% of my monthly income to the Red Cross, US Humane Society, Louisiana SPCA, and Houston SPCA. However, I have not yet worked that into a sustainable amount.

As an artist, you probably have erratic income, which makes it even more difficult- good for you. :)

hey there!
welcome to the club.:)
can you post this on the 10%community page too now- and any more info on your charities of choice with links would be great. I had never heard of Senior Orphans- sounds really good.

Yeah, it's a bit hard waiting for art sales...which are sporadic. I work part-time in some shops so I can get a more regular paycheck for periods of time...and it feels so good to be able to donate more regularly..
