NYC runabout
Zipped into NYC for just a few hours by bus.
Long overdue stop in at Margaret Thatcher Projects to touch base with her and pick up my check for the piece sold. Talked a while with MT in the office...I think I started to ramble about all that's on my mind with the virtual worlds/islands and computer networking stuff...and though she was perfectly polite I don't think she had any idea what the heck I was talking about (and it was my fault). Ah well, I don't get out of the house much. Forgive.
Anyway...she said to send her images of my new works when they're done...and we'll keep in touch and see where this goes.
I have GOT to get more work done. A more 'enterprising' artist would have been focused on only that...and would've met her with images of a 'BigShow' in the works. But...I really believe in the other stuff I'm doing as well and think this time was absolutely necessary for it and I made great leaps and bounds in my other long-term goals. (Pier10 and 10%Club). So, Balance and pacing is key now. Want to take it in stride and not stress and just be grateful: I have 3 group shows coming up this next month in April. One at the Islip Museum, one at Gallery North, and one I was just contacted for at the MAAS Project Space in Houston, Texas. woohoo!It's going to take a lot of juggling and shipping to get pieces from where they are to where they need to be...but doable. Eveything is doable. *breathe*
From MTP I took the subway and walked to my favorite Housing Works Used Books Cafe in Soho to meet up with formerly imaginary artistfriend and now proven sweet and real![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
ninakatz. She came in from Michigan to check out the ArtStar reality show/documenatry open call in collaboration with Deitch Projects. Filling me in on the strangeness of it all, waiting in lines, cattle call portfolio reviews, etc. What a wacky concept!- a group will be chosen to collaborate on show at Dietch...and they'll be filmed 'reality tv style' as it goes along! Someone is going to have to tape this for me when it airs because I am just toooo curious (and don't have tv).
My miniature world-hero/artist friend Kim Keever met us there and we all chatted round a cafe table about recurring dreams and art and the phenomena of LiveJournal (he didn't know about it- said it was bizarre enough to be a movie- and so we invited him to check it out). (so if you're reading this, Kim, bite the bullet and start up your own!It's where All the cool imaginary friends hang out haha;)
Anyhoo, I had to run off to catch my bus but was glad to have made those connections in my brief visit.
Waah but I never got to look for books of course....all the best ones were probably all there for a dollar!
