10% Club- Insulation project
Got my paycheck and decided on this Peace Corps Volunteer Project for the 10% donation. Perhaps because I just can't imagine these kids trying to learn in absurdly cold conditions. Ugh.:
School Number 2 Insulation Project

With the help of the Ecoclub of Rivne, the Green Tourism Center would like to insulate some of the classrooms in school number 2 in the town of Bar, state of Vinnytsia. In return school number 2 has agreed to provide three rooms of office space to Green Tourism Center free of charge for the period of one year. This space is located in a seperate building on the school grounds and currently is not being utilized. All utilities except telephone are included as well. The current conditions in the classrooms are unbearable in the winter due to cold temperatures and drafts caused by inadequate insultation. The classrooms are so cold that the children must wear jackets indoors. In addition, there is adequate circulation, which results in poor air quality. The insulation will benefit over 800 school children between the ages of 6-16 and the 150 staff members who serve them. The results of this project will include an average increase of room temperature by 1.5F-10F degrees, the elimination of drafts, dust reduction, noise reduction, increased public awareness of energy conservation, and cooperation among various organizations on a single community-based project. Partnership funds will be used to purchase and install 214 windows for the school.
