Reading days....
Annie Dillard's 'Teaching a Stone to Talk'. What can I say about this brilliant woman who leads me by the hand back to amazement and wonder each time I read her.
Then nibbling at chapters in Lynn Margulis and Dorion Sagan's 'What is Life?', trying to wrap my mind around a the little fact that termites have been around (and working collectively) for 200 MILLION YEARS. !!!!!
I'm really having trouble with numbers like these. I go backwards slowly...from now,2004...trying to visualize/SEE the Earth in the 1300s....750 AD....100 AD.....450 BC....1000 BC...5000 BC...*crackle*...at 10,000 BC I am at a breaking point. My brain just can't do it. One more step and it's toast. Brain explosion. And they're talking oh...200 MILLION YEARS!!!!
We, this species, we are such a teeny blip, maybe some random mutation that will only exist in this form for a comparative minute..and then become...???
I collect my brain parts and go take a beach break with Bunny and B.
Then
Wet painting in the studio...letting it flow and become fractal gorgeousness. Cells appearing...mysterious forms. Paintings that paint themselves. The opposite of my other pieces. I worry that I may have to reconcile these two styles somehow...how to explain.. they are so different. One super-controlled, architectural, technical, tight, obsessive. The other loose, flowing, organic, yielding.
Ah, who knows. But it's so good to be painting.

termites at work
letting it flow and become fractal gorgeousness
that just gave me the most wonderful image of you with a brush, fractals spilling from the hairs like sparkles... interesting contrast of rigid architecture with chaotic control. perhaps the two styles would merge as a bi-layered dynamism; lines and curves. eternal principles of duality. you would need a third to join them, a transformative process for balance...
Re: termites at work
I've been thinking of merging the 2(painting styles)...but there's something about the purity of each that is hard to let go of. but I'm sure I will experiment soon..
BTW, I just posted a pic of one of the paintings in process...
