PARALLAX Peeks

view from the street, railroad tracks behind us.

Bleary-eyed and sleepless...week of art finishing touches, installation, set-up madness. Heat wave melts us.
Setting up our Parallax containers...mine with astro-turf floor and velcro to hang pieces on walls, dropping works at -scope, more works up at Brooklyn Handknit in town for ARTspotting. Printing labels for postcards, portfolios....a blur of endless measuring and cutting and lighting and locks and countless trips and supplies, putting up posters and signs and somehow graaaaaaadually it all seemed to come together, though I was still exhaustedly hanging works while we were officially 'open to the public'..

Container of the fabulous Janey, my 'next door neighbor':

My container:

Tapp Francke's portal-like photograph on the back wall with digital slideshow, my cyburbia works on side walls.

Mimosas and muffins on Sunday for a brunch.
Other pics to come. I wasn't around for our nightparty because B and I had to go to Connecticut for a wedding on Saturday..but hopefully will grab pics from the others. Pics of the other containers to come as well.B's sis was a doll and manned my container while we were gone. had to deal with our lack of sleep forgetfulness and Majordisorganization, bless her lil soul. meanwhile around the corner at -scope...

I would have loved to create a related reading sitting area in the back of mine...mmmmmm
with a bunch of my favorite inspirational books thrown about like
Sync
Atlas of Cyberspace
Linked
etc
or even bring my whole bookshelves in and couch and make it like you're in my living room

I really liked the sparse, ethereal look of it. Like you're going into this container to see maps of the future or cities on distant planets. Very museum of science and industry in cubicle form. I thought it looked liek it worked well. If you had more things printed on the walls like at the entrance with info about your exhibit it would ahve SO been a beautiful sceintific/geographic/geologic room for a museum! Have I ever mentioned I LOVE your work?!? Someday I'll drive out and give you a sexay tattoo for a small painting. :) a gal can dream!

have to really commit to the image- as you know, that's the hard part.

Just teasin dear! I don't know who would ever let me map ALL of them.

Oh yeah do I know it. Something's refining itself in my head for myself but then I need to decide where I want it. SO much to think about. :)

have to admit I really dig the juxtaposition on those rockabilly girls with their tattoo sleeves and retro apron-y ruffly superfem dresses. check out Venus mag's article on "Arteests: leading lady tattoo artists", ya. Here comes Sammy!
Love that mag. I just got a subscription finally.

And I do also love japanese full shirt/body tattoos (http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art9090.asp)- soooo beautiful.

Oh yeah that's SO amazing! I want my tattoos to be a mix of idea and beauty so it;s not heavy handed or mindless.
